It is a little farther of a walk from some main Takayama sights, but really not too bad. The entryway where everyone takes their shoes off also smelled very strongly of feet, maybe some ventilation there would help.

Very nice modern-feeling rooms, staff even left a hand-written note when I arrived that was very kind. Very spacious and nice common area with books in Japanese and English and other things to do. Nice kitchen you can use as well, and they serve coffee and food. Great value for price. Not far from the JR Takayama bus station where I arrived.

Everything was just fine. One minor thing: no bedside reading lights. Lighting in Japanese hotel rooms generally seems to be matter-of-fact rather than atmospheric.

Beautiful spacious 10 mat traditional room with own bath in a recent modern building with tastefully historicizing ornaments. Large shared living room and well equipped kitchen with ample space for several guests to stay simultaneously and comfortably.

The location is pretty close to the train station (about 10 minutes). It's a like a ryokan hostel. They have shared dormitories and traditional tatami rooms. I had a tatami room, which was really big and most important, really clean.

WiFi was pretty slow

Location is good (10 minutes walk from station and 10-15 minutes walk from old town). Staff is very helpful and always smiling. The facilities are very clean, there is a full kitchen and seating areas where you can integrate with fellow travelers.

Great value for money in a lockable personal room. Clean facilities. Cozy and calm atmosphere with a little bit of Otaku decor. In particular My Neighbour Totoro, which I appreciated. Common area for socializing and games including a retro game console. Kitchen/dining area for eating. On site laundry. Location within about 5-10 min walk of Takayamas old town, 10 min from Takayama stn with a familymart on the way, and about 15 min walk for late night resto/bar district. Friendly and helpful staff with service in English.

Affordable yet very neat, comfortable and accessible. Staff are all friendly. We loved staying at the common room. Our daughter had fun with all the toys available and we were able to play Mario brothers at the retro game corner.

Not the hostel's fault but rather mine. My brand new shoes got stolen from the shoe rack at the entrance so please be careful of your shoes when they are expensive or new. Put them in the locker

Guest House Ouka was amazing! We really felt comfortable there and the staffs/owners were super lovely with us. We can’t recommend enough their hospitality. We booked the Japanese-style room and we loved it. The room was spacious and it was super clean, tidy and comfortable.

Great location close to bus services and a short walk to the markets, restaurants and shrines of Takayama. The staff were so kind and accommodating with helping extend our luggage storage and providing recommendations for the area.

Very friendly, helpful and kind staff - they contacted the police for me when I left my wallet full of money at a market stall (and it wasn’t there when I returned to the stall). My wallet was never found in the end but I’m grateful for their efforts. The hostel is a great location - ~10 min walk from train/bus station and main hub of Takayama. It is also kept very clean! Personal lockers in dorm rooms were also a bonus!

If we have to say something I would be that the airco in the room is quite loud...

There is a friendly staff. The coffee is nice. The beds are good en the entire place is very clean, as you expect in Japan. There is a kitchen you can use, that seemed good (didn't use it).
