Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MalaysiaHotel staff communication. During check in, we were told by a staff that we may need to walk to station next morning because taxi is fully booked. This has affected our holiday mood. The hotel operator should consider to provide shutter service for those who are not driving. Otherwise, the difficulty of getting taxi should be stated in website, so guest can take it into consideration when booking this hotel.
The room,breakfast and onsen.

AustraliaQuite far away from the centre or main site seeing spots. Hard to get to unless you drive/hire a car.
Amazing ryokan with beautifully thought out facilities and onsens. We picked the room with its own private onsen and it was excellent. Room was extremely spacious and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful too.

NetherlandsMerely a suggestion: please prepare a dinnermenu in English for guests that don't speak Japanese, so that they can enjoy it even more. Of course the staff explained what they served. But a menu in English would make a great souvenir.
Apartment (with corner to sit, sleeping room, living room, entrance hall) in minimalist Japanese style). Don't forget to take a walk in the beautiful garden! Breakfast and dinner served in a private room. I recommand strongly to have dinner at Baien. A traditional Japanese meal consisting of seven (or more) courses. Lots of variation with seasonal fresh products. A real treat. Lovely in- and outdoor onsen.

We had a big villa to ourselves and the open air onsen bath attached to our room was really wonderful to soak in the afternoon! Had the opportunity to use the family bath onsen as well. The beds were comfortable, and we enjoyed the complimentary tea and snacks provided. Kaiseki dinner and breakfast was also very nutritious and nourishing.

AustraliaThe staff went out of their way to make us comfortable. We're vegetarian and they provided a fully vegetarian alternative dinner and breakfast despite it not being something they'd offered in the past. The staff spoke brilliant English. We booked the room with the private onsen and it was really spacious and comfortable.

SingaporeThe private onsen is always not available (no fault of hotel, jhst too popular). There was a centipede in my room toilet which scare me.
The place was tastfully deocrated. The rooms was big and comfortable. The food is amazing. Parking is easy. There is a self service free drinks bar in evening.

CanadaWow. Unbelievable stay at Baien. Incredible value with Japanese Bungalow style huts. Very nice public and private onsens, both of which were very clean. Breakfast was very nice in the morning. Don't forget to go by happy hour where you can make your own drinks and hang out in the beautiful lounge area. Was the best place we stayed in during our 3 week trip around Japan.

AustraliaThe western style beds had very hard mattresses.
The room was splendid - really spacious, exceptionally clean and well-appointed with wonderful big windows/lots of natural light. Staff were excellent. Breakfast was very generous and traditional. They offer free happy hour every night with a great selection of drinks in the lovely lobby/lounge area. The onsen options were stunningly designed and just gorgeous, as are the hotel grounds. The have private family onsens which was a great option as our teenage daughters were not keen on the female public bathing. You get a fabulous view of Mt Yufuin and if you like walking, the walk into town is delightful and not too far. The town has many great places to eat/shops. I wish we had stayed more than one night!

SingaporeOnly thing I minded was the location; it is quite far away from Yufuin Station, so you either have to get a taxi or drive here.
The hotel's amenities was great, and staff was super helpful in helping me with my luggage request. The food option for breakfast and the kaiseki dinner was very good and offered a wide variety for guests to try.

SingaporeFood was alright, not bad but nothing to shout out about. Rooms couldn't seem to lock from outside with the keys- but it is generally very safe.
The Ryokan is beautiful everywhere. Loved the private onsen and the space in our room. Food was served in a private room at the dining area. Parking was easy, staff helped us with the luggage all the way. Best to drive there.

JapanThe location was a bit inconvenient as you need to call a taxi to get places if you don't have a car. If you wanted a late-night snack, you were out of luck. Sometimes it was hard to make a reservation with the taxi company in advance as they weren't sure the number of drivers there would be. We only needed a taxi twice and at off-peak times so luckily it was alright but had it been a longer trip, that would've worried me. Also, for check-in, the reception staff didn't seem to know if you're a foreign resident in Japan and provide a Japanese address then there is no need to check the customer's resident card. I was a bit disappointed that they insisted on doing it anyway and made a copy. For reference, they did not do this when I visited a hotel in Fukuoka right after this one.
The food was amazing. They stuffed you like a turkey. Onsen was relaxing. Rooms were big and they kept them warm. I liked that they had a private onsen you could go to and wait instead of dealing with the hassle of making reservations.
