Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe owners were amazing and helped a lot with possibilities to visit around the area and all of Hokkaido. Not only did the owner speak really good English for Japan, his wife was also very eager learning each day and getting better. It was really great being able to exchange so much with locals. Highly recommended. Also the food was absolutely amazing and I was struggling to eat all of it.

Asanebou Inn is a fantastic place. The hosts are amazing - it really felt like I was part of the family! The meals are scrumptious, the rooms are cozy, the nearby onsen is stellar. I highly recommend anyone passing through Kawayu to stay here, whether travelling alone or in a group. A++

LuxembourgAki and Taka are lovely people. I had great times with them, enjoying delicious home-cooked food. As well as making culinary discoveries, I enjoyed learning more about Hokkaido and Japan in general from them. Their house, located in a beautiful and peaceful setting, near JR station, is very beautiful and cosy. I loved sleeping in the Japanese-style bedroom. The Akan region is magnificent... I'd love to come back soon!

GermanyThe house has strict rules, e.g. the times for the meal are fixed (which is understandable, given that everything is freshly cooked in front of you). There's no shower at the facility, though the owners provide you with access to the public baths which are 3 mins walk away.
If you're looking for a very local and authentic experience, this is the place. The owners do an excellent job with dinner and breakfast, and they are ready to share a lot of information about the area. Coming down for an evening tea was fun, as it felt like a get-together in someone's living room to chat and learn some origami.

AustraliaWould be nice to add a couple of chairs outside so that there is somewhere to sit and recover from the hiking :)
Taka and Aki were great hosts, made us feel extremely welcome and had loads of great advice for the best things to see and do in both the local area and other parts of Hokkaido. The dinners and breakfasts were lovely with a wide variety of freshly prepared food - as they are served at one large counter table it is a great opportunity to meet other travellers and share travel tips and a few drinks :)

United KingdomThere is nothing that can be improved: this place, and these hosts, are perfect.
I have stayed in many places all over Japan and have to say this is one of my favourites! This is because there was such a warm welcome here - you really are made to feel at home with Taka and Aki, who really are lovely, generous hosts. Dinner and breakfast were bountiful and super-enjoyable with such good company; the house is very authentic and because Aki takes you to the village onsen and introduces you to people there, you really feel included in this part of village life - such a treat! You'd think there was nothing better than this, but there is: not only did Take and Aki make fantastic suggestions for things to do and see (spot on - thank you!), but Aki actually accompanied me the whole way on a walk to Lake Kusharo: I learned so much from her and feel she is friend. It''s magical here: please go and make the most of it!

Singapore- shower facilities are located in a community onsen a short walk away- we didn’t mind this as it was summer but if you are staying in winter it may be rather cold
- super friendly hosts! Taka-san and Aki-san were extremely welcoming and took good care of us. also gave many good recommendations for sights around the area - Great food in a homely izakaya-style dining area - clean!! - get to meet and interact with other guests at meal times - very good value for money- breakfast and dinner provided in an area with limited food options (unless you drive out some distance) - close to lake mashu and Mount Io

GermanyIt's about 3km from Kawayuonsen, so a bicycle to rent would be nice.
A great place with nice people. It's near to the station, where just a few houses are. So much nature that fox and deer run through the garden. Mt Io is just 900m away. And there is a nice little trail to town. The rooms are clean and cosy and you'll get excellent and really much food. Taka and Aki are really nice and interesting and interested hosts, so that you can about everything you want to in the evenings. They will also help you by planning Daytrip and are able to tell you, if you can walk there (because they from time to time walk those ways themselves) or should have a car. Thank you so much for having me!!! どうもありがとうございます。

United KingdomThe accommodation is basic, but that's what we expected.
Location great for those without a car - 5 minutes walk from the Senmo line station and good walking and cycling nearby. The hosts are helpful - they collected us from the station and took us back there for our early morning departure. They provided a (paid) taxi service so we could do the Mt Mashu hike and found bike hire for us. Meals are good and copious, and very social.

IsraelOnly downside is the fact I didn’t have a car. Public transportation is super sparse and taxis must be booked well in advance, so proper planning is required. I wouldn’t recommend coming here in winter without a rental car.
Traditional Japanese house with tatami rooms. The owners were lovely and dinner with them was super fun! Very memorable and funny. A proper Japanese experience I daresay. 5 minute walk from train station.

Traveler’s Inn Asanebo is a traditional Japanese-style Inn. Perfect location to explore Hokkaido lakes, experience outdoor onsens, and see the wildlife. Taka is an amazing host, the food (breakfast and dinner) were just delicious. Taka is also a photographer and showed us around the area. It was the best place we stayed in Hokkaido. United KingdomWe felt pressured to go to the local onsen after being there for only 5mins. The female owner insisted on driving us and two other guests to the onsen, which was a short walk away. This left us feeling a bit uncomfortable around her. As they don't have a shower for guests, we found it much more relaxing to go to another onsen the next day by ourselves.
We were given good home cooked food for breakfast and dinner.
