Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanThe building is old and the wall is thin, so you can totally hear everything from upstairs, downstairs and next door. You need to bring earplugs it will help your stay comfortable.
This hostel is 10 minutes walk away from the Echizen-Ono station so it’s easy to get there. The owner is very friendly and kind! Also he likes hiking. So he shared many helpful information about the area and some of mountains nearby. The room is very clean and well organized. Also I loved the most was shared space in the ground floor.

SingaporeThere are no lifts in the property and the stairs were a little slippery, but the staff were extremely helpful with my luggage which reduced my biggest concern. The soundproofing was really minimal as compared to other properties - I was on the 3rd floor but could hear as much as the traffic light signals, although that area was still quieter than staying in a city. It was extremely easy to hear guests from the other room, so I also had to be careful to be as quiet as possible. The curtains were also not opaque at all, so it did not block out any sunlight in the morning. Note that the towels had to be rented for 100 yen each, but this is quite common among other hostels as well.
The location was extremely good in the Echizen-Ono area, right opposite a bus stop that goes to other areas in Fukui and a short walk away from Echizen-Ono Castle and train station. The nearest Lawson and coin laundry were not very close, about 2 bus stops away, but that is something expected from such a less urban area. The staff were also some of the friendliest people I have met (Fukui people seems to be very friendly in general!) and they were very informative in sharing what attractions there are within the area. The shared facilities like showers and common area were also very clean and well-maintained. It was nice that for a solo traveller, I get to have a room to myself instead of just a bed. For travellers who are looking for a simple place to spend the night, this is pretty worth it!

GermanyThe lobby is beautiful but you can't use it in the evening or morning. There was no cutlery available by default, but you can ask for it when staff is at the premise. There is a cool rooftop space but no furniture.
Great value for money place if you are interested in traveling around the area of Ehimeiji / Ono. There is free parking for the guests right next to the hostel. We had a rental car, so we can't speak for public transport, but there are dining options available by foot. There is no kitchen or microwave in the shared space which you have to share with guests preparing for the day/night. The host was extremely accommodating in showing us the area and explaining necessary things for the stay at the hostel.

TaiwanIn the common space there was a spot that the water was dripping a little from the ceiling. I didn't use the common space so didn't bother me much though.
I really think you could not ask for a better hospitality in hostels than the one Arashima showed. Even before my trip, the staff offered to help through messages and the detailed and customized recommendation I got made me excited even before arriving Ono. During check-in, again the staff gave so much information and recommendation about the town. You can feel the love and the passion they showed toward their home town, which also made me fall in love with the place. The hostel itself is very simple and clean which is good enough for its price. The location is amazing. All the attractions are within short walking distance. I wish I had more time to explore all the recommended spots but definitely on my list next time!
