Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe bathrooms could do with a little upgrade, but perhaps it’s part of the charm of the hotels heritage. Non complimentary water, tea and coffee in the room was a shame given the cost, would have been very welcome rather than having to pay extra for standard basics.
A beautiful hotel, old school Hollywood glam with its film festival connections, and an amazing location right on the beach. Stunning views from our sea view room, lovely size room, spacious and very clean. The pool and terrace areas are beautiful, lots of space and places to relax. Food is great, all of the staff around the hotel are super helpful and friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have a great stay. Breakfast is plentiful and eating outside is a great way to start the day. The free boat service to and from Venice is an excellent perk of the stay, the boats are beautiful and it’s magical to pull into San Marco or back to the hotel dock. There really is no where else to stay if you’d like some relaxing time as well as a city break. We’ll definitely return!

Czech Republiceven though the season hadn't started yet, the hotel was quite busy and the restaurant capacity was quite small
the incredible atmosphere of more than a century that this building has experienced, the beautifully renovated rooms, the sea view rooms have a breathtaking view, the sea is clean, the pool is heated and the half hourly shuttle to San Marco makes the Excelsior the best place in Venice, the restaurant is very good It was my about 20th stay in Venice and combined with a very exceptional Biennale the best. Thank you to room service manager Adriana for the great service and help.

United KingdomThe plumbing in the rooms means that the shower temp is not constant. The main issue is the organisation of the staff in the terrace restaurant/ bar/snack bar area. They are nice and friendly but very poorly organised. Everything takes too long and you have to sit and wait to get any sort of service. The attendants at the pool area are more interested in playing on their phones than looking after the guests. When you arrive it’s like you are inconveniencing them. No smile, no willingness, very poor. Not what you would expect from this quality of hotel.
The hotel is beautiful. The location is great. It is old but has been maintained to a very high standard. Our rooms were very nice indeed if a little old fashioned. The shuttle boat to and from Venice is excellent. The check in and concierge service is also very good. The food served in the restaurant is of good quality.

United States of AmericaWhen we arrived, we asked for a room with a view of the pool but they said none were available. They gave us a room on the 3rd floor over looking the street with kind of a view of the canal where the hotel boats come in. I was not happy with this room at all so we went back to the front desk and asked for a room with the sea view. They told us we paid for a "classic view" so they showed us another room with a similar view. We did not like this room either. The hotel front desk said if there is something tomorrow, she will let us know but we would have to pay for an upgrade. That night, you could hear all the cars going by, their car radio's, people walking, riding bikes, kids playing, it was horrible. We went back to the front desk, talked to the same lady, she booked us into another room on the sea side, top floor with a balcony for an additional $135.00 (mind you, I received an email asking if I wanted to upgrade the room to enter an amount and they will reply if they approve the amount so I did that too). After the room fiasco, the rest of the stay was amazing with a few minor disappointments. One, for example, the hours of the pool. They close the pool so early and it definitely doesn't feel like it's heated. There isn't a hot tub either but I guess that doesn't matter because the pool area closes so early, you wouldn't be able to enjoy the hot tub anyway. The front desk staff are not welcoming at all and it felt like they did not like American's at all. I felt like they were put off by us because we wanted a different room than what was given to us but imo I paid a lot of money to stay at Excelsior, I wanted to be happy and enjoy the experience especially since the hotel is very outdated on the interior. Another annoyance, there wasn't anywhere to hang out on the beach. They don't have lounge chairs along the beach. Sure they have cabanas for $350.
After we got our room situation fixed, the view was so nice. We had a balcony room with french doors, it was so nice to come back for the evening, relax on the balcony with a glass of wine with the sea wind and the sound of the waves rolling in. So peaceful. Also waking up to the morning sun with the doors open. I chose this hotel for all the different lounging areas at the bar, on the terrace, pool bar, etc. Being on an island, I didn't want to travel back and forth to the mainland for entertainment. The Blue Bar bartenders were very nice and accommodating (shout out to Bruno and his staff). The outside terrace at night with the piano entertainment was so nice as well. I arranged for airport shuttle service upon arriving and for departure. It was expensive but worth the expense due to not knowing what to do once we arrived at the airport. On the way back to the airport, the shuttle service was amazing. We took the hotel boat to the airport drop off. The hotel had a driver there waiting for us in a beautiful Mercedes. They took our luggage in a van and the driver took us to the airport, loaded up our luggage onto a cart and pushed our luggage through the airport to the duty free windows (I purchased some items eligible for duty free). We had to go to two different windows and the driver brought us to both, waited for us and took us to where we needed to check in our bags and boarding passes. He was great, we felt like princesses.

United KingdomThere is no direct path from the pool to the beach or the kids club, and there is also no designated area to rinse off feet when returning from the beach. Although there are showers available, they are not conveniently located near the hotel entrance.
Despite being the cheapest option, our rooms were incredibly spacious and offered ample wardrobe space. The hotel's food was consistently excellent, and the staff, particularly Vanessa at the pool bar/restaurant, were friendly and accommodating. It was extremely convenient to travel to and from Venice, as there was a boat available every 30 minutes.

SwitzerlandAlthough one can accept the fact that the price of the hotel is really high, especially in the summer months, it is a bit disappointing that the interior of some of the rooms is a bit dilapidated. However, the lack of service in the more remote tents on the beach at a price of approx. 400 EUR per day is definitely disappointing. Similarly, the pricing policy for drinks and lunches could be their unpretentiousness and also adapted to the simplicity of the food. The truth is that the quality of dinner in particular is reputedly excellent.
The hotel has a uniquely Venetian atmosphere and combines the beaches of the Adriatic Sea with the proximity to the centre of Venice. We have visited the hotel several times and we really like it. The size of the rooms is appropriate to the time the hotel was built and assumes you are living in them, not just staying overnight.
