The hotel is a 20 minute walk to the train, so if you are staying in the city to catch the train it is a long walk

Some of the weather!

I can only reiterate what many others have said on Tripadvisor. This is possibly the best hotel we have stayed in. It is spotlessly clean and the attention to detail is amazing - rearringing the fruit at breakfast, fluffing up the cushions in the lounges, cleaning the ceiling fans and maintaining the gardens - all done constantly. It would be rude to mention staff by name because there isn't a single one of them who doesn't deserve praise, from reception to bar to restaurant to maintenance. Breakfast is amazing - I have never seen an egg-boiling machine, pancake maker, automatic yoghurt dispenser or honeycomb before! And of course the toaster provides endless entertainment every morning. The pool is a little brisk (to say the least) but huge and with the more than adequate number of sunbeds, each with a table, never any of the conflict you get at other hotel pools. But not only were the staff fantastic, so were the other guests. We met and socialised with people from many different countries and found them great company. It is not a cheap hotel but, as I said, probably one of the best. However - maybe the owners should consider having the pool toilets and changing rooms put in a museum. They have probably been there since 1926!!

Dinner was in a very large room, OK but pricey. Prefer smaller restaurants.

I think everyone and everything was fabulous- maybe the weather let us down a little!

Poor WiFi, noisy air conditioning in the room and the English speaking TV channel choice poor.

The location is great - close to everything and lovely staff. And great breakfast! The 25m pool was perfect for our daily swims. We stayed poolside most days and there was great availability of sun loungers every time.

That said, while we traveled as a family, we found that this hotel might not be the best fit for those with young children. It seems to cater more toward an older crowd, particularly British guests who value peace and quiet. It’s a wonderfully serene environment, but perhaps not ideal for families like ours who were looking to enjoy a more playful, energetic atmosphere. Although the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us and our baby, the overall ambiance felt a bit formal and reserved. For example, when we spent time at the pool, we noticed that our daughter’s joyful laughter wasn’t as warmly received by other guests. We experienced a similar atmosphere during breakfast and in other shared spaces — the staff was always wonderful and made our daughter feel special, but we sensed some discomfort from the other guests.

Our stay was very pleasant overall, thanks to the incredibly friendly staff who welcomed us warmly from the moment we arrived until the day we left. The hotel has a classic, timeless vibe. Everything is impeccably clean and well-maintained, with no sense of being outdated. It felt like we were stepping into a world of luxury, with attention to detail in every corner.

A few areas are a bit dated but it’s how it should be. Part of the charm. Smoking area by the pool a bit unpleasant if you don’t enjoy the smell Of smoke. The coffee isn’t brilliant at breakfast. Road infront a bit noisy at night but it’s part of the seafront location in Viareggio.

It’s certainly Grand! Fantastic position. Spacious, elegant. Old school glamour. Faultless staff.

The English language tv channels were very limited basically news (BBC and CNN), with so much out there could entertainment channels be added? Also in shower hot water took several minutes to be available

We were upgraded to a family room which was lovely, but the shower in the bathroom was disappointing. Situated over the bath and difficult to stand under to shower comfortably. The only fault of the hotel was the small bathroom and shower.

Superb location on the beach front. Staff very attentive, good recommendations for restaurants. Hotel and rooms very old world, lovely light rooms. Pool very nice with a lovely garden and dining out space.

The hotel location is great, just a few steps away from the beaches, a beautiful park as well as the shops and restaurants. The staff was extremely polite and responsive. Rooms are big, especially for stays longer than a few days it provides enough space to feel comfortable and at home. Breakfast provides a big range of everything from fruits to eggs, deli and gluten-free options.

The old room doors are beautiful but their noise insulation is almost zero. Some items at breakfast were average (most fruits for example)

Imposing building - it can make a five star with a bit of effort. Just across the street from the beach.
