Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Breakfast was good. Staff could have explained where buffet etc was. A pot or cafetière of coffee would be nicer, rather than just one small cup.

United KingdomIt needs money spending on it. It used to be an amazing place with great food but now it is characterful but tired. We were given a disability access room but as we booked on the day and had a dog, we couldn’t complain. The main heating wasn’t working but there was a portable radiator in the room which was on when we arrived and kept the room warm. Bathroom was cold though and my shower water was cold, although my husband showered afterwards and had hot water. Also, it’s not good to charge for parking at a so called 4* hotel. We did not try the restaurant as the menu was very basic and expensive. Went somewhere else instead.
We liked the history of The Bear and character of the main building. Also its location in Woodstock. We booked last minute and had our dog with us so booked a standard room off the courtyard and car parking. The room was comfortable with 2 armchairs and kettle and coffee machine. From the outside it looked tired but the room was quite comfortable and looked as if it had been painted in recent times. It was adequate for our needs with a dog.

United KingdomOur room 45 is next to the upstairs lounge where there was a noisy group on Friday in that room until after 3 am!!
Location is good but we knew that having stayed at the hotel before and we have lived in the area. A lift would have helped my wife who temporarily has mobility problems.

United Kingdomno blinds or net curtains at our windows, so smokers in the courtyard and passers by, who use the hotel courtyard as a short cut, could see straight into our room. The all inclusive breakfast offering was a bit basic - too many items on the menu were at a supplement The courtyard room meant that we had to make a mad dash in the rain to the main hotel for breakfast the bathroom was a bit dated
Warm and welcoming staff Fab central location characterful historic property our room was elegant and smelled of spa!! good value for money

United KingdomI had a lovely courtyard (ground floor) room - but very disappointed to find that staff parked directly outside my window; noisy arrivals & departures. Plenty of space for staff to park away from guest room windows.
Perfect location; lovely comfy bedding; most staff very good; easy parking; unique rooms.

United KingdomOur TV didn’t work properly due to a faulty aerial cable and the WiFi wasn’t great. But the room was fab and this is just a minor gripe.
Incredible location in the heart of picturesque Woodstock on the edge of the Cotswolds with Blenheim Palace on your doorstep. We got upgraded on arrival as our room wasn’t ready and the staff were brilliant.

United KingdomRoom was noisy due hot water tank/piping which was noisy all night. Supplement of £6 on anything other than a full English breakfast and yet breakfast was “included”. And expected to pay £4 for a cappuccino at breakfast, a real disappointment for a four star hotel,
Staff were courteous and attentive

United KingdomThe hotel should not confuse potato scones (which were on the menu) with hash browns (which were what was served up). Being a Scot, I found that quite disappointing although the breakfast was still good.
Nice large room with a comfortable king size bed. Really good breakfast. Good location near Blenheim Palace.

United KingdomWould use again because of location but probably only bed and breakfast. Not sure if the food was cook/chill.
Very old, quite quirky. Wouldn’t recommend for anyone with mobility issues. Quite a few stairs but there are rooms on ground floor. The staff are all lovely, friendly and helpful. Not the best food we’ve ever had and some items on menu weren’t available. Were told they had run out but as it was fresh catch of day and monkfish two days running I just think they never had it. Very disappointed with the Caesar salad.

Fantastic location, sadly just let down by a dismissive receptionist who wasn't very helpful. Couple of cobwebs hanging from the ceiling in our room but otherwise great. Would have been nice to have a robe, especially when room advertised with them.
