Beautiful scenic location, our host Jen was very welcoming and helpful. The food was exceptional, believe me, I’ve eaten in a lot of pubs and this one is up there with the very best! As is often with rural pubs, staffing is a problem now, and breakfast was not possible, but Jen had the perfect answer sorted. Breakfast had been arranged (and paid for) at a small cafe 200yds away - and what a breakfast!!! Best ever! Thanks Jen and the lovely lady in the cafe

Amazingly friendly staff, very accommodating even of strange requests and arrival times. The food is better than any I've ever had anywhere, the venison shot locally is truly amazing and cooked to perfection

Wasn't a major thing but ground floor room got alot of noise from people walking around in their room immediately above and people using the external entrance fire door directly opposite room. Dinner menu food was quality ingredients but quite salty for our taste. Dog owners - there is no immediate, easily accessible, public footpath walk apart from alongside quite a busy road. However there is a very steep climb up a public footpath path close by. Of course within a short drive there are amazing walks.

The room was a bit basic. It was the wheelchair accessible room but I didn't need that.

Hotel is set in a stunning location, along the side of a river. Extremely peaceful. Food was excellent, we had evening meal and breakfast. Both excellent. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

Couldn’t stay longer

The whole experience was excellent. Great rooms, clean, comfortable and warm. Good bar with friendly staff and the food was amazing , some of the best I have ever had. Really enjoyed our stay and we will be back.

Staff were excellent. Pleasant and friendly. Breakfast was first class. Evening meals were very good both nights. It's really good value for money. The room was comfortable and warm. Very good shower. Excellent location, a bit off the beaten track, but lots of walks nearby and close to all of the key locations on Hadrian's wall. The weather was particularly atrocious, but that was the same all over the North. Racing was unsurprisingly abandoned at Hexham nearby. We will look to return.

Bed was small and not very comfortable. TV was tiny and only worked in one channel. Host did offer to look at it for me, but it wasn’t a problem for me, but may be for some.

Very awkward wash basin in bathroom so difficult to put water in kettle. No plug for wash basin. Fairly minor issues.

Minor points only: the bed was a bit hard and I couldn't make the bedside lights work. Originally they said they were going to close the bar at 8.00 (would have been an early end to the evening!), but actually kept it open while we were there. We greatly appreciated the flexibility!

It is a lovely place, friendly, with wonderful food, a fire to sit by and just by the river, with amazing views. We are keen to return! Worth a long journey for the quality of the food alone and with the location and relaxing place too, definitely a special place.
