Room shabby, WC and shower room, grouting and paint needs redoing, dated, limited TV channels (about 3 that worked) it's a shame because the house is lovely and has great potential and staff nice.

    Breakfast, premises.

Access to the rooms was via several flights of stairs. The electrical facilities were old and several lights didn't work. The plumbing was a disaster - for two nights we had no hot water and then the macerating toilet blocked so we had to move rooms. Despite these faults we enjoyed our stay due to the lovely staff.

The staff and owner of the hotel were lovely, very friendly indeed and they went out of their way to provide good service. In particular I would like to mention George who stayed late to check us in to the hotel when the immigration queues at Portsmouth delayed our arrival. The hotel itself is an attractive old stone building which is clearly maintained on a shoe-string by its enthusiastic owner - one guest described it as "quirky" - nice with unusual measure of attractions but a commensurate measure of faults…

Shame the bar isn’t open but it’s understandable they need to keep costs to a minimum.

The hotel needs refurbishment. The bathroom was clean but the shower had mould around the seal.

The hotel was a bit tatty in places although clean. Slept well and the breakfast was pleasant although would have liked more toast.

As previous reviews, the hotel does need a refurbishment as facilities are tired. I really hope that they get the funds to do so as the hotel really deserves it.

Just one things (and I am aware of the pricepoint and star rating in sharing these): 1. A desk please. Have some rooms with desks or even just one or two desks stored in readiness for guests that request them. If I am working away from home and on my own all evening, it is a great chance to catch up with work, but no desk = balancing the laptop on my knees. A desk need not cost a lot of money to buy and is more useful that the drawers in the room. Anyone travelling with so many clothes that they want to unpack and store them away can use the wardrobe anyway. Please: a desk.... Even Travelodge rooms (which is a fair comparison pricepoint) have them.

What a beautiful building! Nice and quiet yet convenient location and such a friendly guy doing the breakfast service in a professional but personable manner.

No evening meals. The narrow bore toilet flushing was a bit noisy. A bit of investment is needed.

If booking.com could do guest reviews it might help the hotels 😂 Some of the guests were rude especially today. If you have picked your breakfast time stick to it! There wasn’t a table free when we got to the breakfast room. We waited patiently as you could see they were stressed. It didn’t help with one guest banging the plates about. If you want top end filter coffee and silver service go elsewhere!! If you want a decent night sleep in a comfy bed with a lovely breakfast come here. We couldn’t fault it!

The building was enchanting. The breakfast was lovely. The bedroom was very comfortable as were the beds. Yes it is outdated but the hotel is welcoming and the staff are friendly. Everything was explained as soon as we booked in and we were given the choice of time for breakfast and taken to our room. There isn’t a lot of staff which wasn’t a problem for us as we were patient as you could see they were short staffed. Obviously because it’s an old house there was only two sockets so an extension lead in your suitcase might help. A great affordable three night break.

Brill location, comfortable bed, and very helpful staff, however it could really do with updating the furniture doors, and plumbing system, everytime you flushed the toilet or ran the shower an annoying loud noise comes from the pumps. Other than that was ok 👍

The cold tap in my bathroom did not work very well. As there is no one on site at night it would be good to have a phone no for emergencies in the room.

The receptionist Chelsea was very friendly and welcoming. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I enjoyed my breakfast. The dining room is a lovely room.
