Superb. Traditional bed and breakfast done perfectly. In a thatched cottage that started out as a farmworker’s house that has been added to over time. Situated along a ridge overlooking a pretty rolling valley, deep in the Devon countryside, amidst Devon lanes, sheep, cows and horses. The owners are delightful, and immediately found us good pubs to have dinner at a couple of miles away when we arrived late. We had a big room at the upstairs front, with a deliriously comfortable king-sized bed and soft carpet. Best night’s sleep we had in England. Absolutely quiet. Good bathroom with good shower, also a bath. Everything immaculately clean. Power points on both sides of the bed. Nice shared sitting room downstairs. Superb full English breakfast with local and hand-made ingredients, excellent coffee and real juice, in a glazed breakfast room, looking onto the countryside. We were there only one night but it would a great place to settle in to detox and explore rural Devon. Excellent value for money.

Difficult to find any negative comments. Perhaps a second chair in the already well equipped bedroom and would prefer mugs to drink tea but we are in the realms of being nit-picky.

Excellent breakfast with a good menu choice. Comfortable bed and first rate ensuite facilities. The hosts were friendly, accomodating and informative. Superb views from the property and interesting group of livestock both domestic and itinerant.

Nothing about the accommodation but there are some narrow country lanes to navigate to get there.

The whole stay was an amazing experience. The countryside views to the bedroom and ensuite. Could sit in the garden was hours admiring the lands for miles. Not to mention the beautiful horses, sheep, peacocks and geese that were within touching distance. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much for them. The breakfast was delicious, such a great selection. Put a smile on my face when I walked into the bedroom to find Lindt Chocolates on each side of the bed tables. The beds were so comfortable and the ensuite was nice, clean and tidy too as well as the bedroom. The tea and coffee station in the bedroom had a great variety of drinks to make and even come with biscuits! Honestly, the best B&B I've ever stayed in. I definitely would recommend and stay at again on my next trip to Devon.

Ian and Linda were friendly and welcoming, the grounds were beautiful and the Lynton room was lovely - the roll top bath and balcony made our trip feel extra special. We also enjoyed meeting the horses! Definitely hoping to come back again next year.

Very favourable first impressions. Arrived in bad weather but the gardens and the cottage still looked stunning. Too wet and windy to venture outside on the lovely balcony. Breakfast was excellent and we enjoyed having a little chat with Ian and Linda. Perfectly run cottage b and b.

Amazing tranquil location a little off the beaten track but motorway easily accessible. Rooms and facilities exceeded our expectations based on the descriptions and photographs. Our hosts were attentive and courteous without being obtrusive and nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend the porridge for breakfast

Everything was perfect, from the house, the location, the views, to the breakfast. Ian and Linda were amazing hosts, it's clear to see the love and passion they have put into their business, to ensure their guests are comfortable and well looked after! Our room was spacious, the views were exceptional and the attention to detail was on point! I would highly recommend Fernside!

There is nothing not to like. It’s perfect.

The attention to detail is excellent. The views are just beautiful. The staff are so attentive and go out of their way to ensure you have the perfect stay. Breakfast is delicious with so much choice. The bedrooms are luxurious with absolutely everything you need. It is our second visit and both times we have had the most fabulous relaxing stay.

Beautiful views, cottage & gardens, the bedrooms & ensuites were perfect, well presented breakfast with eggs from the Fernside hens, reception room with sofa available for guests (including fridge), comfortable bed, the owners live in the other half of the cottage so available if needed if you have any questions, they are professional, attentive & thoughtful hosts providing just the right amount of privacy for the guests, access to Fernside is via single track county lanes adding to the rural Devonshire experience, restaurants available within a short drive.
