Shower was in the bath and the water pressure was very low.

A lovely traditional building with period features. My room was a little tired and could do with modernisation, but it was clean and comfortable. My evening meal was satisfactory, but the breakfast and view in the morning were excellent.

    Absolutely nothing!

Wonderful traditional hotel, clean and comfortable. Such fantastic grounds with the Abbey being seen from some rooms and the Tweed from others. Good food both in the evening and at breakfast. A great location to explore the Borders. Best of all are the staff - friendly, efficient and welcoming. It’s my go to hotel when I’m in the area!

We had a later breakfast slot and found many items were finished e.g. no croissants or fried eggs.

Breakfast location was lovely, service was well.organized and friendly, good variety of breakfast options, fresh and tasty.

Running out of bread at self service toasting machine and eventual replenishment being only just de-frozen.

We stayed here because we could not get a reservation in Melrose and enjoyed our overnight stay with dinner more than we expected. We had a very comfortable modernised room with good shower room as requested and enjoyed dinner very much in the Bistro restaurant. Breakfast seemed a bit hectic as the hotel was busy but all was satisfactory. The hotel's location on the banks of the River Tweed is wonderful. The person at reception in the morning was so genuinely friendly we would be happy to return and have more time to explore the beautiful area.

On the drive leading up to the hotel, you see the old abbey. This is a spectacular view and hoping that the hotel lives up to the expectations of what you've just seen, which it did. The hotel is an old building, and with that comes dated features. The receptionist was very helpful and friendly, explained everything clearly, I was asked if I wanted evening meal, this had to be booked as did the breakfast at a time to suit you. The room was large with a high ceiling. It had a large double bed, which was 2 singles put together, but it was very comfortable, tea and coffee facilities also a TV and other furniture made for a nice stay. The restaurant for the evening meal was very dated, the food was really good, the only thing I could comment on ,is this is a dog friendly hotel and as such they were allowed in the dining room, something I'd have preferred not to have had, don't get me wrong, I like dogs but not in the room when I'm eating. The hotel was quiet at night, and I slept well .The breakfast was hot, and plenty of it really enjoyed my stay.

Bathtub/shower awkward, slippery, no slip mat. Disappointed that there was no fire in lounge fireplace. Very short staffed, but existing friendly staff did their very best to fill many roles.

Lovely location, central to all sightseeing in the Scottish Borders.Comfortable bed. Large room. Good dinners.

Tv in bedroom could have been slightly bigger, as struggled to see without glasses on, but not imperative. Could possibly use something to control temp of shower better, as at one point water almost scalded me. It had been a comfortable temperature then suddenly got extremely hot without me adjusting knob etc. There are signs to say the water gets very hot within the bathroom.

We stayed in a standard room and it was just that. Perfect for what we needed. Comfortable bed. Small ensuite. Shower was a little temperamental but got used to it eventually. Evening meal (I had venison, partner had chicken) was beautiful and breakfast was lovely.

Room - shower wasn't working first night. Fixed by first morning but too late to use. Breakfast buffet first morning couldn't quite keep up with demand on the fried eggs and beans. The black pudding was a bit dry and hard. No porridge.

Room - tidy and comfortable and warm. Dinner - small menu but acceptable. Cooking was "standard". Breakfast buffet on both hot and cold fronts was ample.

Not a fan of the full breakfast buffet arrangement. Soggy bacon, rubbery scrambled egg. Hard potato cake. I think they would do better to have the cereals and toast as a "help yourself" but make cooked breakfast from fresh to order.

Lovely hotel. Very nice room. Lounge area and Bistro cosy. Evening meal was very good.

Bed sheet was too small for the bed and kept untucking. Made the bed less comfortable as it creased. Rooms and public areas could do with some updating, especiallythe bathrooms. I found the matress reasonably comfortable but it left my husband with back ache. Some of the staff were dressed very casually to the point of it being unprofessional. Ill fitting clothes and unbrushed hair did not help. I understand the upkeep on a building like that must be huge but our stay did not feel like value for money.

Nice selection for breakfast although some of it looked like it had been there for much too long. Beautiful grounds. Clean rooms. Good tea and coffee selection in room. Staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our evening meals in the restaurant. Beautiful breakfast room. No problem getting a parking space.
