Because we use the kitchen a lot, sharp knives are essential. We bought a knife sharpener to ensure we could keep the knives as sharp as we required for meal preparation. This is a minor thing in the overall quality of the cottage and furnishings.

The property is located in a small rural valley, very near to, but not in Oban. The location and proximity were ideal for my wife and me as we like to be in a natural setting where we can see and hear birds and also see sheep on the hillsides around us. We were very happy with our host Katie who obtained a few items for the kitchen to assist with meal preparation and storage as we have many food issues and prepared many of our meals at the cottage.

It would have been good if there were a few tea bags and coffee to start us off. We weren’t organised in that way, so we no sooner found our way there and then headed back into town to get supplies.

I loved that it was out of town and the country views surrounded us. It was also great to be able to walk around and explore. The walk to the loch was lovely. And there was plenty of room to accommodate us. Katie was very welcoming with a beautiful smile and happy demeanour.

Residents have use of laundry facilities which are pretty decrepit. Housed back of the 'barn', there is all kinds of junk stored there, the machines are old and coin operated. You have to guess the charge needed to complete a wash rather than requiring a set amount. The laundry should either be made inaccessible or cleaned up and modernised. A mar on an otherwise great facility.

Self contained cabin in a beautiful location. Comfortable day room with a well equipped kitchenette. Modern bathroom (noisy shower though) and comfortable beds. Onside bar/restaurant open Fri thru Mon. Road in is single track and a little bumpy.

The only downside was we felt the path wasn’t safe to walk into the town centre but this didn’t hold us back.

We absolutely loved staying here. The cabin was comfortable, it was wasy to find with the instructions provided and the area is just magnificent. We look forward to returning one day, as our only regret is being here for only two nights.

We loved everything!! The location was easy to find and just beautiful quiet surroundings. Our cottage was so warm and welcoming and very clean. Great outdoor hiking and our cottage had a great deck with table and barbecue. Amazing staff, Katie was super helpful and very responsive to any questions we had. Also the Barn Bar on site has amazing food and staff.

Hot water tank groaned like a tortured beast whenever we tried to pull hot water from any of the faucets. Staff did their best to calm it but to no avail. I’m sure they’ll solve the problem with the help of a good plumber.

The setting was wonderful. A quiet dell surrounded by lush meadows. The dinner at the barn restaurant/ pub on premises was outstanding.

Incredible location. You feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere but you’re just a short 10 minute drive into Oban. You’re hidden in a valley surrounded by peaceful hill. Clean, simple chalet. Had everything we needed. Breakfast on the patio overlooking the hills was a highlight.

The only tiny thing that would have helped would have been having a few teabags and sachets of coffee and sugar to settled down with after the journey. Aside from that very minor detail, it was absolutely faultless and we would definitely return again.

We had a warm welcome and a lovely few nights at Cologin. It's well-located and close enough to everything while managing to feel quite remote. The family who run these lodges do a beautiful job and add a personal touch just by being present, friendly and unobtrusive. Great place for dogs too, with a gorgeous forest walk right on your doorstep. Would be an ideal place to bring children to as well.
