Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere is nothing to dislike.
This has to be one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. Attention to detail is superb. Great location in the centre of Grasmere with parking. Staff, Juliet and Rhian were amazing. Friendly, helpful and professional. Room was stunning. The chef cooks an amazing breakfast. Lovely touch of beautiful scones, pastries, tea and coffee every afternoon, delicious. My favourite part was sitting out at the back, where two tables are situated over looking the river opposite the church. So beautiful and peaceful. Book this gem of hotel and experience it for yourself.

United KingdomThe rusty colour paintwork in our room was rather depressing but this is a personal comment and did not spoil our enjoyment of this lovely hotel.
Our room was on the ground floor right next to the river and looked out on the ducks! Breakfast was excellent - all freshly cooked. Coffee and pastries were freely available during the day which was a great bonus but a guilty treat! Staff were efficient and friendly. Lovely garden to sit out in during the day. We ate our evening meals in two nearby restaurants a short stroll away. Reserved parking for our room number.

United KingdomThe sister hotel ‘the inn’ has a restaurant which we went to, they were very short staffed meaning we had to wait a long time to be taken to our table and to order etc. not the fault of the staff but we wouldn’t go back to the inn.
Very peaceful but in the centre of Grasmere so great location, gorgeous room which was also spotlessly clean and huge comfortable bed! All staff so friendly and helpful - Rhian (sorry if spelt name wrong!) was so nice warm and welcoming, chef Gus (again sorry if name spelt wrong!) does incredible breakfasts. Loved the free afternoon tea which we took advantage of. We will definitely be returning.

United KingdomSmall point ... there is enough room in the bathroom to have installed a separate shower as well as a bat - instead of having it over the end of the bath. But this is really nitpicking!
Breakfast ... brilliant. Chef prepared the food using fresh ingredients, to order. Presented perfectly and delicious. The staff went above and beyond to welcome us and look after us during our stay - even ordering food in for us if we didn't feel like going out for the evening meal. The rooms were spotless and finished to a very high standard. And .. location was very convenient if you wanted to wander into the village on foot .. or drive over to the bigger towns like Windermere. We will definitely be back!

AustraliaRoom 302 only had a hand held shower over the bath, which was in the bedroom. I don’t know why there were glass panels in bathroom doors that allowed us to see whoever was using the toilet.
The location was perfect and breakfast and afternoon tea were appreciated.

United KingdomNothing to dislike personally but doesn't have facilities for lunch or dinner but can order in takeaways from bigger, sister hotel in Grasmere. So many eating places nearby.
Love, love, love this hotel. Our go-to in Grasmere. Not big or fussy like other hotels but a small, different, intimate place, where you can make friends or be left alone. Lovely quiet gardens to relax in but on doorstep to lovely Grasmere itself.

United KingdomWindow in our room - 404 - was very low and faced straight on to the car park meaning everyone there could see directly into our room. No privacy. A voile curtain or blind would be a good idea.

United KingdomStayed here a few years ago and gave a just above average rating. Whoever has bought and renovated the hotel has done a great job and turned what was a very average hotel into maybe one of the best. The staff where fantastic (Sarah & Juliette), location, not sure you can get much better (with private parking), breakfast was freshly cooked to order; there is 'free' tea/coffee and scones every (i think) afternoon and if you are lucky enough to be in the Lakes for the 48 hours a year it doesn't rain then there is a large private garden you can sit in and chill - just a great hotel to base yourself from whilst exploring the area.

Fantastic location in a great village, particularly if you are visiting the south lakes. Some good intermediate and harder walks to enjoy. The staff at the hotel are very helpful, accommodating for all travellers needs and made the hotel a welcoming and enjoyable place.
