Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe drapes were crazy and half on, I had to do a makeshift situation to close them. There was also a spooky cupboard by the ceiling that kept opening up.
I actually liked that it was all self check in, nice bed, tv/amenities coffee tea. Bed was made everyday and the trash was taken out. Good location, an easy 15-20 min walk to the Royal Mile. I would stay here again. Oh, the old keys were kinda fun too.

Czech RepublicVery nice, good location. The only thing is the shower - there is some kind of flow heater which we didn’t understand. Some instructions would help. (And we recommed L’etiole Tea Room for breakfast - they serve vegetarian options too.)

SingaporeIt's worth for the money. Convenient to access the Waverly station (20 minutes by the bus). Only negative thing I have is the strong smell of paint or adhesive in the room, which I guess was because the place was newly renovated. I'm very sensitive to smell so it took a bit of time for me to get used. All in all, it's a very nice place, clean and well maintained. And the staff were very friendly.

GermanyThe only light in the room were the two lamps on the ceiling, rather bright and shining directly in ones faces when laying on the beds. A couple of table lamps on the night stands would help a lot at only little expense. Also a small fridge could do quite a lot good for a stay. With its current furnishing I wouldn’t like to stay there for more than 3-4 nights
Location is a bit outside of the most popular sights, but very easily accessible by bus and there is a good grocery store right around the corner. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming, check-in was fast and uncomplicated. Room cleaning was how we like it- they didn’t touch the beds, but the trash was emptied in time and everything else kept clean.

United KingdomShower head didn’t work properly, it leaked and wouldn’t stay up on the pole making showering difficult. The shower cubicle was very small. There were a few little bits of rubbish left in the room and it could maybe do with a good dust. Could hear other people in the guest house quite clearly and the street outside was a little noisy.
Good location, only 15mins away from princes street. Plenty of cafes/coffee shops etc close by. Comfortable bed. Good for a short stay.

New ZealandThe staff were very friendly and helpful. The guesthouse is just a short walk to nearby bus routes that take you into Edinburgh old town. Despite the university accommodation being directly across the street, the area is actually pretty quiet. With so many busy roads nearby too, I was expecting it to be far noisier than it actually was. Especially in the evenings, it was lovely. Loads of restaurants and fast food options just a short walk away. The room we stayed in is small (I knew this before booking) but it was clean and tidy, with tea and coffee making facilities provided. I loved the tartan carpets in the main hall and stairs.

GermanyIt could be a bit more clean especially the bathroom was not really inviting - but for one night it was okay.
The Guest House is quiet close to the Grassmarket and the Castle. It takes about 20/25 minutes to get there. The rooms offer everything you might need. They are not to small and not to big and they have a shower. The Owner was friendly and explained everything to us.

United KingdomThe mattresses (very soft and caving into the centre) and pillows (on the hard side) were not very comfortable. No bedside lights.
Excellent location within walking distance of Haymarket train station and lots of restaurants and cafes. Had twin beds rather than a double which is what we were looking for.

United KingdomThe room we stayed in needs a lot of updating, the lack of modernisation did put me off a little but all other services were great. You could overlook it.
The room we stayed in was large and spacious, although in need of a lot of modernisation, it had everything we needed. You get complementary snacks and tea in the room which was a nice touch. They also had a lovely large reception area with seating. The location is in a beautiful location, you get a view of the lake once you step out. Staff were lovely and breakfast was fantastic. You’re given a menu with a wide selection as well as fruits, cereal and juices. Definitely the highlight of the stay!

New ZealandI couldn’t figure out how to work the shower. Once I let the host know they showed me how to flick the fuse on in the room (very simple). But as someone not from the UK a little heads up or note on the switch would be good 😊
The host was lovely and very welcoming. Great location to the shops and old town also the neighbourhood was very safe and quiet.

New ZealandVery bad WIFI, bed was lumpy, toilet smelt a little, TV did not work, was a little far from the Grass Market, room faced onto what looked like low end apartment's and a parking lot and I only saw a staff member on entry and it was a very transactional conversation.
It was cute and relatively clean.
