Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomParking for our camper van, the swimming pool was great fun for the kids, location for walking in to Avimore
Breakfast was good, the room was spacious for our family of 4 and the single beds for the children were better than the Z bed you get in most hotel family rooms

We had really nice time at Macdonald Aviemore. The hotel is in really good location, in the centre of Aviemore. Our room was clean and nicely decorated. Nice and welcoming lobby with fresh flowers smelling everywhere. Cosy and handy bar located right next to reception. Choice of restaurants available. We only used Giovanni's - which was very nice. My daughter really enjoyed the swimming pool, softplay and activity centre are really good option for families with kids when the weather is not so nice. Lets not forget about cinema as well. Special mention to Ryan from reception who went an extra mile and made sure that small mistake didnt spoil our stay. Excellent customer service, thank you Ryan. We will be coming back.

United KingdomEvening meal. We found the situation strange restaurant half empty but it seemed we were a problem. We had no booking but as a resident I expected to be accommodated. The wine list is riddled with errors. Ordered a bottle of shiraz at 13.5 abv but when it arrived it was 11abv. Even the replacement bottle was wrong 13.5 abv but 13 abv on arrival. Our meal arrived and the chips were cold. By this I had had enough and went to get a drink at the bar to be told I,d have to go to the downstairs bar. Twice our key card did not work. We were in room 2334 which has to be the furthest from the front desk in the whole hotel. I suffer from sleep apnea surprised to find no electric socket on bedroom wall. Reception supplied an extension cable.
Breakfast was fair. Lack of direction about procedures. Offered tea/coffee when shown to table nothing after that. No butter on the table no check back if everything was OK.

United KingdomNot being told enough about facilities when checking in ( a map and timetable was provided) Dirty under bed. Hard to get choice of meal time for restaurant if don’t book soon enough
Walking distance from train station. Very comfortable bed and pillows with crisp cotton bedding. Lovely fluffy towels. Room could do with a thorough clean but acceptable. Very friendly staff from soft play to life guards, Sam and Ollie in the play area with lots on in the Easter holidays. My grandchildren didn’t want to leave the complex so we made the most of everything on site. Pool with wave machine was great fun, disco/ quiz nights with good deejay, outdoor play park with bike hire and grass sledging. Lovely breakfast with good choice for all tastes and even gluten free. Will return again

United KingdomHad to go round the 3 hotels on complex before finding right one. Saw some guests having hard time at check in - had family with additional needs and I’m sure they didn’t need the hassle. Staff a bit grumpy to them. My experience was good but sad to see that.
Glad we were at the Highland Hotel. Reception staff lovely. Room good size and standard. Right next to pool - brilliant for kids. Saw others having less good experience at the McDonald Aviemore Hotel.

United KingdomBreakfast was a hit or miss. No sweeteners, no teaspoons to stir the tea. Not enough staff to clear the tables. We stayed for 4 nights and our bed was never made, although I had pulled it up. We only received clean towels. I was fine with this others may not.
Staff were friendly. Central location

BulgariaWe didn’t like the dinner at the restaurant. We had reservation at 6:30pm, after we ordered (twice as something happened with the system), we got our drinks after 50min, dinner came after 8pm. Kids were crazy, waiting for their food (macaroni with tomato sauce, this can’t take more than 30min to cook). They were always coming with other order asking if that’s for us, also messing up our order. We were very mad for all the situation. If we go again in the hotel we won’t go in that restaurant, restaurants in the town are much better.
Property is clean and good.

United KingdomFire alarm triggered twice, old and tired looking, no kids food at bar, had to pay straightaway on arrival in order to get room (kids needed to get to bed after long journey), very expensive/little choice of food in soft play centre, no hot water in swimming pool, confusing road layout.
Good facilities, good breakfast, although not everything worked, close to report centre and nature walk, bathroom with bath and shower, ski school on site, soft play centre and pool inclusive, cinema on site.

United KingdomSome of the fittings were a little tired and old The shower leaked through the glass onto the bathroom floor The room could’ve done with somewhere to hang coats The hook on the bathroom door was broken The Italian restaurant was average at best No fridge in the room At breakfast, a cappuccino would’ve cost extra
Very centrally located for the town Lots of eateries on site Comfortable room Decent shower No noise from other rooms Amazing food in the main restaurant Decent breakfast with good variety

United KingdomThe music played on the Bar areas. Outdated and dull. You’d think it’s to discourage people from staying there for any length of time. Also, when there with forever hungry Teenagers, the fact you can’t buy snacks or even so much as bottled water late in the evening is a bit ridiculous considering the whole village closes early. Having to ask for glasses of water to then carry to rooms isn’t ideal. There should be a reintroduction of late room service. I would encourage my family and friends to come but more likely to opt for the Lodges now and bring our own supplies upon experiencing this over our stay this weekend.
The property is spotlessly clean and comfortable however a bit of modernisation wouldn’t go a miss considering the rates. The staff however are amazing. Live entertainment was great.
