Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandThere was hot water available but it took a long time running the cold water before it heated up. But it wasn't a big issue as the weather was warm enough to shower cold.
Loved our host! She was extremely patient and accommodating. I didn't have a bathing suit as I didn't think it was going to be warm enough to swim. She told us of a shop we could buy something but it was pretty expensive so instead she allowed me to borrow a bathing suit which was extremely thoughtful. She also took us all around the island and had good advice about where to buy and get good deals and had a wealth of knowledge and information about the island and its ancient inhabitants.

IrelandThe property is a little far from the town, but the walk is nice and super safe. The kitchen is a bit limited.
Our host was absolutely fantastic - super friendly, helpful, and ended up being our (mandatory) guide to visit the moai which was much cheaper than another guide. They help you organise anything you need and you are picked up (for free) from the airport and also dropped off. The rooms are very comfy, mine had a balcony which was lovely. Price is good considering the expense of being on the island. You could pay cash or card.

United KingdomCannot recommend Pua Vaenga more! Bea was a wonderful host, she picked us up from the airport with beautiful flower necklaces. She was amazing from start to finish- was always there when we needed, and took us on an excellent (and really reasonably priced) tour! We learned so much about the Island and it's history, and also got an included beach trip. The hostel itself is lovely, the beds are super comfy and it's kept spotlessly clean. Go stay here we had the best time!! Thank you Bea - Lisa & Isabella

PortugalAll the power outlets in the house I was in were type L, so I couldn't charge my laptop, which is type C (I Googled before going and it said Rapa Nui uses both C and L outlets). However, I worked everything out on my phone so I didn't bother to ask if there were any type C outlets in other common spaces.
Highly recommend for budget travellers like myself! The owners of the Hostal are incredibly nice!! The wife picked me up/took me to the airport, and always made sure I had everything I needed. They re-booked me to a different room so I could have a whole house to myself, which I deeply appreciated. The place was comfortable and the wifi worked well. FYI: If you don't rent a vehicle, it's about a 25/30-minute walk to downtown/the beach (uphill on the way back to the hostal), but it's super accessible with a car/scooter.

The place is amazing! We loved everything there. Our room was in a small house with a bathroom, a well equipped kitchen and a common area. Wifi was working well, especially at the terrace. We could do our laundry, rent bikes and a scooter. The owners were the nicest people. They picked us up from the airport with flowers and gave us tips what to do on the island. You can also do a tour with them (in Spanish).

United StatesWonderful staff! The owner picked us up from the airport and gave us a welcome drink when we arrived. She also had a birthday cake and champagne to celebrate my 40th birthday. So thoughtful and kind! She also gave us rides into town to avoid the long walk. My Dad and I really enjoyed our stay here and hope to return soon! Thank you for everything!

United KingdomLocation is a bit of a walk from town (25 mins) but it's safe and pleasant at any time. It's also possible to rent bikes, scooters and cars from Bea and Andres. We got the car which was really useful to explore the island as well.
Absolutely amazing hosts who were very friendly, provided lots of recommendations and made us feel very welcome! They also picked us up and dropped us off at the airport. The room and ensuite bathroom were both clean. Very good value for money compared to other options!

ItalyIf you know what to expect (not a five star hotel but a familiar and low cost hostal) there is really nothing to dislike. If you havent a car, better you know that the sea side of Hanga Roa is about 2 Kilometers far, so you'll have to like walking or use a taxi service.
The place is familiar, the staff is warm and friendly. They give good advices about the island places, also directly offer other services as touristic guided tour and car rental, always at very reasonable prices in a generally expensive location as Rapa Nui. Included in price the picking and dropping at the airport. The wifi service was fast and reliable, an important detail because the cellular signal is often weak or absent in the island.

United StatesIt was great! Power did go out once in the night likely because of wind it was not an issue for us - just for others to be aware that this could happen anywhere on the island.
Great little cabanas to share with just one other person or group. Hosts were SUPER accommodating and lovely per all other reviews and always checked that everything was okay. We really appreciated them helping to find the strongest wifi on the property for an interview.
