It’s quite expensive. Very complicated to reach if you come from Victoria you must drive an extra 20 miles, cuz you can’t turn left. There are no restaurants nearby.

Price is a little high, but there isn’t much in the area, and all lodging in Greater Victoria seems overpriced. Not convenient to do anything without a car, though the restaurant across the highway is good, if you’re silly enough to cross the highway on foot (which is dumb).

Location is convenient for area and right off of highway. Bungalows are older/dated, but clean, well maintained, and obviously cared for by owners. It is a complete 1 bedroom and a nice change from a hotel room.

I must say the location is a little odd and on the other side of the highway. I was hoping for a trail to the beach but instead the main island highway is in the way.

Good little spot, cozy for 2 people. The beds were really comfortable. Bathroom is a little outdated but still all functional.

Like most hotels / motels, it is located fairly close to a main highway, and while there is a sound barrier fence, trucks and other loud vehicles are clearly audible. Nothing the property owner can do about it, but if you're a light sleeper like me, earplugs are recommended for sound sleeping. Entering and leaving the property requires a drive-by on the highway and turnaround at the next crossing, as there is no highway crossing in Mahalat. Nothing that can be done about it, just be prepared for that.

In particular, the owners were extremely attentive and helpful. I stayed in both a regular bungalow and one of the cottages. Both were fine to stay in, well-set up and with everything advertised. Internet was adequate and movies played fine, but wasn't the typical gigabit speed Canada has been building. This is likely because of the location - Mahalat seems to have older high-speed internet, not the newer fiber. But it wasn't a problem in any real way.
