Housed in a building from 1873, this hotel is found in Lillesand’s picturesque harbour. Rooms offer a mix of old-world charm and modern comforts such as flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Very professional yet cosy hospitality, gorgeous interior with fine detail and delicious breakfast. Will hopefully be back on our regular trips from Oslo to Stavanger.

The location is very authentic, the staff very friendly and knowledgeable about the local events. The kids were having a great time as well, with the treasure hunt and gameroom!

Set by the seaside in the picturesque Risør town centre, Risør Hotel offers free Wi-Fi and room with a flat-screen TV and private bathroom with bath or shower. Risør Aquarium is 50 metres away. The room was lovely, warm and really clean. The breakfast was delicious, especially the crispy bacon and eggs! The reception was lovely but as it was quiet season it was only open to allow us to check in. The location is wonderful, right on the water and close to bars and restaurants.

Located by the Byglandsfjord, this hotel offers a private swimming area, terrace and boat rentals. Wi-Fi and parking are free at Revsnes Hotel. Fantastic breakfast included for early or late starters. Had a lovely buffet dinner the night we arrived and cold beer. Tea/coffee facilities available in foyer and room. Games room with many games, and large public lounge room. Interesting Norwegian historical items scattered throughout the hotel. Norwegian country decor. Very quiet at night. Lovely pier to sit over fjord at night.

I'm familiar with Arendal as it is a useful centre for me to get to other places I want to go to - good transport links for a person without a car and town transport including those to the islands is good. The architecture and natural surroundings are wonderful. There are plenty of places to eat and I recommend the art association's cafe which served me a delicious fish soup and provided local newspapers. There are interesting museums and galleries although the Aust-Agder Museum was not open on a Monday. I found the locals very willing to chat and for anyone interesting in knitting there are at least 3 excellent yarn shops.
