Kurokawa Onsen, Minamioguni

Located in the centre of Kurokawa hot-spring area, it offers Japanese accommodations and free WiFi at the lobby. Free shuttle is available to/from Ogunimachi Yu Station and bus stop Kurokawa. We spent 3 nights at the Sotetsu Fresa Inn Nihonbashi Kayabacho hotel after arriving in Japan (There is another Fresa Inn in the area, so make sure this is where you have your reservation). It is a relatively modern, functional hotel sometimes referred to as a business hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very small as is typical in Tokyo but very clean and functional. The hotel is convenient to Tokyo station (20 minutes walking as a reference). After arriving on the Narita Express or by others means to Tokyo station, follow signs to the Tozai line (sky blue) subway. The easiest way to know which direction to go is to look at the numbers representing the stops. The Tokyo station stop at Otemachi is T-9 and you want to go to T-7 Kayabacho. Leave the Kayabacho subway station via Exit 7 and the hotel is just around the corner. From Kayabaco or the nearby Nihonbashi station, you can get all around Tokyo on the highly efficient subway system. Use a Suica, Welcome Suica or Pasmo card to enter and exit subways and avoid the hassle of figuring out which ticket to buy or how much they coat. Just tap and go. Enjoy. We had an unforgettable family stay at a traditional Ryokan in Japan. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, who made us feel right at home. The serene atmosphere of the Ryokan, with its beautiful tatami rooms , and peaceful environment, provided the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Our family enjoyed the delicious kaiseki meals served in Ryokan and loved relaxing in the private onsen. We highly recommend this Ryokan to families looking for a unique and authentic Japanese experience.
Most of the dishes in the buffet were delicious. The indoor onsen had a nice view but you had to stand up to see the view from the outdoor onsen. The location wasn't as nice as Ryugu but it was in a fairly nice location in Kami-Amakusa.
We really enjoyed staying at this traditional Ryokan. The breakfasts and dinners were traditional Japanese cuisine served by very respectful waitresses. Its well located for Mt Aso. We had our own private onsen which was an excellent way to end the day. We highly recommend staying at Aso Tsuruya
We loved our stay in this traditional ryokan and the very attentive staff made it feel very homely and welcoming. Our room was cozy, the dinner and breakfast were delicious (and they very kindly accommodated our vegetarian request), and the highlight of our stay was a private onsen we could book without any additional charge.
Meals were nicely presented and delicious. I love this heritage building and there is a cave hot spring which is very unique and needs to be tried. I can't find the Ryokan and park it at the wrong site, I walk to the Ryokan and told the staff I don't know how to coming in to this place and the staff help me to drive my car and park to the Ryokan car park place, the road is very narrow and have many tourist to walk, not easy to drive.
Big and spacious room. Very comfotable bed. Have a onsen hot spring. Hotel right next to shopping street and very near to Kumamoto castle.
First stay at a ryokan- a unique Japanese experience. Had a very relaxing stay overall and the location of the ryokan is perfectly situated to explore Kurokawa. The staff were extremely helpful and tried to explain things the best they could despite the language barrier. The indoor onsen was small but relaxing, it made my skin feel really nice the next day. I personally didn't try the outdoor onsen however my partner did and said that the smell was quite strong.
Clean, spacious room with comfortable futons, amenities and everything included. Private onsen hot enough, indoor and outdoor onsen was clean, big and free flowing. Small ryokan so it is quiet and intimate. Service was attentive.
This was my first ryokan experience and the staff took great care in explaining all the procedures and expectations to me :) They were very sweet and assisted me in any request. The room, while one of the smallest, had plenty of space and faced directly onto the river. The private onsen and public bath were great; I specially enjoyed the outdoor onsen. The food was of very good quality and plenty. The Kurokawa Onsen village is quaint for a short afternoon stroll.
Great ryokan experience in a traditional small onsen town. Good availability of onsens both private and public, but even had public onsens to myself as a private onsen. I can highly recommend the outdoor onsens. Also makes a good base to visit Mt Aso for walks.
