Our private room at this hostel like guesthouse was spacious and comfortable. The common/lounge area was also nice and tidy, with the highlight being the 3 private onsens that are free to use for all guests. There is also a big kitchen which you can use, but we didn't as we ordered dinner which was bento boxes from the guesthouse. The bento box dinner was better than we expected, and you can take as much rice from the kitchen as you need.

Adumaya Ryokan is the perfect way to explore Yunomine Onsen. We stayed two nights as part of our hiking route through the Kumano Kodo, and coming back to Adumaya to relax on its multiple baths was one of the highlights of our trip. The ryokan is a deep and layered blend of history and tradition; the service is unbeatable, the dinner incredible, and the experience a real treat. Spectacular service, very clean, excellent Japanese meals with full explanations for foreign guests, very quiet traditional rooms with modern public areas, traditional Onsen (our room had its own toilet but bathing is public in separate male and female baths (this might seem like a big deal to some but we embraced it as rare opportunity to experience a traditional Japanese Ryokan. Stayed here 2 nights to complete the Hongu loop of the Kumano Kodo in one day (traveling to and from the property is possible using reliable and inexpensive public transportation; it will take a day to get there from Tokyo and another day to return). The staff speak excellent English and I can’t say enough about their professionalism and care for their guest’s comfort.

Great place! Hongu is a wonderful town. Staff were nice and location next to the Temple was a bonus. Rooms and common facilities were clean. Hostel is well run by a Buddhist monk.
