The capital of Japan, Tokyo is a vast, teeming metropolis nestled between mountains and Tokyo Bay. It’s so huge that you’ll have to come to grips with public transport and maybe even experience being pushed onto a train. Yes, it does actually happen!
Get your bearings by ascending the Tokyo World Trade Centre near the waterfront, and savour the fantastic views taking in the red-and-white Tokyo Tower and Shinkuju’s skyscrapers. North is Ueno, home to the best museums (including the Tokyo National Museum) and a large park bursting with cherry blossom in spring.
Equally tranquil are the Chiyoda Imperial Palace and Gardens, surrounded by water. Also in gardens is the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine in Shibuya, a youthful district where neon abounds.
For more traditional Japanese culture, head to Asakusa whose Sensō-ji Buddhist temple is Tokyo’s oldest temple. Markets in the grounds sell a variety of wares, though shopping in Tokyo is, of course, fantastic wherever you go.
Whether you stay in a Japanese ryokan, luxury Tokyo hotel or a hostel, don’t fly out of Tokyo Narita Airport or Haneda Airport without having tried sushi. Another Japanese institution is the sento (public bath) and onsen (hot springs bath) – a must try. Also incredibly popular are Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, Asia’s 2 most visited theme parks.
I found Tokyo to be very receptive to tourists. If you are adventurous and love to explore cities, this is the perfect city to visit. Every district in Tokyo has tons of food and shopping options. The train/subway system is a very efficient and cost effective way to get around the city. I spent 5 days on the train using a $19 preloaded Suica card and even used it for shopping for essentials and snacks. I would definitely come back to Tokyo.

There is a lot to do in Tokyo.
There is a lot to do in Tokyo. Tokyo is one of the most developed city in the world. A lot of small restaurants to try out with different types of cooking. There are a lot of stores to go shopping. I ended purchasing electrical devices like an electric toothbrush. I had left my toothbrush charger in one of the hotels who was pressuring to get out of their room by 10 AM. I was in such a hurry I ended up leaving my toothbrush charger behind, so I had to buy a new toothbrush-charger set.
Overall Japan is an interesting place. While the large cities are modern and industrialized it is only one side of Japan. Another side of Japan is in the small farming villages and towns. Nihon or Japan underwent a profound change in the 1850s. While Japan adopted and integrated western mechanization it is a culturally Far-East Asia and very traditional. You see the Japanese trying to breakout of that tradition. There are men and women dance groups who wear traditional businessmen suits or female students wearing traditional school uniforms dancing to avant-garde movements. What does that say?

Tokyo is the best city in the world (I promise I'm not exaggerating). It's clean, safe, easy to navigate, and there is so much to do. The food was amazing everywhere we went. It was both my husband's and I's first time in Tokyo, but we will definitely be coming back often. Our favorite spots to stay were Koenji and Asakusa. The only thing I would maybe avoid is the Golden-Gai and the surrounding area. It's a bit of a tourist trap, and almost all the bars and restaurants in that area charge a cover and/or a foreign transaction fee.

Tokyo was amazing and so clean didn't matter where we were the toilets where they were spotless the streets were the same. The people were helpful even though they spoke little English. Alot of the museums were free to visit and the government building no 2 was free to go to 50th floor for the view even got to see Mt Fuji from there. Food anywhere was great and some restaurants had english menus just ask.
Getting around was easy and signs helpful with thing to see as well as street name.
Don't bother going to the Emperors place as not open at all.

Tokyo is like a RPG game, there is a quest behind every corner, inside every building. Very easy to get around via all the subways. Favourite places, probably Meiji Jingu and the areas around Shibuya and Shinjuku.
It's a great little hotel in a perfectly central location with easy access to Kagurazaka, Shinjuku, Shibuya. The Ichigaya station is just 5min walking distance, which makes it very convenient to reach many destinations within Tokyo including the Studio Ghibli in Mitaka.
The hosts of this hotel were very attentive and friendly. It had a familiar feeling, which we as a family always appreciate.
We loved this hotel and we think its the best value for money in Tokyo!
This accommodation was a real bang for a buck!
The host was nice and welcoming, responding to messages very quickly.
The location was convenient and close to the main attractions of Shinjuku as well as the Shinjuku station.
For the price, the room was a decent size (fitting all five of us) and had more facilities provided than in most hotels many times the cost.
I will definitely consider booking again when I'm in Tokyo next time.
This was the first of various hotels my husband and I stayed while we were visiting Japan. APA Hotels became my go to and most sought out Hotel in this AMAZING country. Every employee is courteous, the rooms are very clean and stocked with ALL the toiletries needed. Do yourself a favor and do not add more weight to your luggage, ditch your dollar store toiletries because APA has them all! Cant wait to be back
Perfect location for enjoying Sakura as the hotel grounds had beautiful gardens, water features, lit up trees and decoration for the Sakura season. It was so stunning - both on the ground level and view from the rooms.
Location is a bit far from the main busy areas of Shinjuku abd Shibuya but easy to get to thr train and go any which direction.
Japanese breakfast buffet was lovely too.
I have stayed in this hotel before. I Love their location. Walking distance to Shinjuku Station. Very close access to South Gate entrance.
Our hotel rooms has a very Nice view of Shinjuku area, railroad of Shinjuku, a glimpse of Gyoen National Park. The hotel is accross a big Takashimaya mall. It has all the ammenities I need for my travel to Tokyo.
We traveled with a 4 year old who loved the kids playing in the park of an afternoon. Language barriers don’t worry kids. The hotel was well placed in a quiet neighbourhood and extremely easy access to the Red line with 1 stop to Main Shinjuku station. Property was clean and well prepped with items such as coffee, slippers, tooth brush etc
Location was great. It was walking distance to the lively part of Shinjuku. The host was also very responsive and kind. Its also very easy to find. Once the host sends the exact address, you'll see that the entrance is actually part of an easily searchable hotel, which you'll have no problem looking for in google maps.
This hotel serves the best service and best room for my stay in Tokyo. I had been at another 2 hotels in Shibuya and Shinjuku but Richmond Hotel is the best. lobby is at the 5th floor and there are uniqlo and other food store downstairs. JR and Metro station is just in walking distance. Free VOD for you to enjoy.
The location is most convenient as it is located on top of a mall and next to the train station. You can see the famous Shibuya Crossing from the hotel hallway or corner crossing view rooms. Walkable to restaurants, shopping, train station, parks, etc. I would definitely stay here again if back in Tokyo.
Great location, right next to Tokyo sky tree and the river. Bit of a journey on train to Shibuya/Shinjuku but we enjoyed the quieter area. Staff friendly, room comfortable and bigger than our other hotel rooms in Japan. They had a lovely kimono wearing event and tea ceremony event on our first day!
The location is great! Walking distance from Shimbashi station which gives you access to to pretty much everywhere in Tokyo very easily (including Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ginza, Asakusa, Akihabara, Harajuku, Disney etc…). The hotel is very clean and the staff is really helpful whenever you need them.
Nice little hotel in a great location with very friendly staff. Our room had a microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine/dryer making our stay very convenient. The hotel is also very easy to get to with a 2min walk from Nishi-Shinjuku Station on the Toei Oedo Line.
The private rooms with bathroom are an incredible value — and with tatami flooring plus futons, offer a real taste of Japan.
Flawless service. Adjacent to riverside park. Tons of nearby shops. Super convenient to Shibuya, Shinjuku, and all of central Tokyo.
Its in a very good location, 2 min walk from Shin-Okubo station and 10 mins walt to Shinjuku.
The hotel is a typical capsule and recommend to those who are looking for trying out a one or two night stay in capsule hotels. The lounge is quite spacious.
The big plus for us was surface parking. Many Tokyo hotels are 2.1m limited and our camper is too large. This hotel doesn’t have that problem which is great. Price is good too. Robot reception was fun for the kids and manga was a good perk.
Loved being right on the park and looking out at the metropolitan government building. Glad we weren’t in the heart of Shinjuku or Shibuya.
Restaurant was fab. Loved all the animals. Staff were friendly. Very multicultural hotel.
We stayed in 6 different hotels in Tokyo, both capsule and traditional, but this was by far my favorite! The place is immaculate and very attractive, the capsules are very comfortable, and the area is great!
It's so cheap. It's nice to stay to in capsule hotels like this because you wouldn't have to be lying down all day. This will force you to check out all the tourist spots in Tokyo.
