The Stafford London, hotel in London

Just off Piccadilly and next to Green Park, The Stafford London is elegant, central, peaceful and charming.

We prefer older hotels on the smaller side and The Stafford exceeded all expectations. Not off to a good start as when we checked in, the front desk woman mentioned that we booked through Booking.com as if it were disdainful and gave us room 211 - small & dire with a dismal bathroom. A fabulous Whiskey Sour at the American Bar made up for the disappointing start & we were off to meet family for dinner nearby. Returned to the American Bar after dinner ordering another Whiskey Sour but a different bartender and not as good as the first. In any case, we love this cozy bar & managed a drink or two every night of our four night stay. The next day we were able to switch rooms and what a difference. I think new room number was 325 -- much better layout, more space and not dilapidated in any respect unlike the first room with a much better bathroom, spacious, separate shower and tub, a window that opened. We missed breakfast hours the first morning but very accommodating staff were able to get us exactly what we prefer for breakfast -- coffee with yogurt (outstanding French yogurt) & berries. The location of this hotel is excellent -- walking distance to many of our favourite spots in central London -- and while all the staff were helpful and friendly, must call out the front door gentlemen and front desk staff (except for woman who checked us in) as exceptional and outstanding.
