I was returning by train from Berlin to Basel, when a freak rainstorm wiped out the DB signalling system and we all had to leave the train at Karlsruhe, further travel impossible. Some people slept the night in the train - some, like me, blew a hundred Euros on comfort. I booked, using my mobile phone , while standing in line at this hotel along with dozens of others. Totally uncomplicated, very comfortable room, friendly staff. Great location, next to the station. I would go there for a future visit to Karlsruhe!

The royal palace and its surrounding park and federal offices are worth visiting. Also the historic main square with its pyramid is a well designed place. There is a lot of public art and small little plates on posts with highly critical comments on the political reality in Germany - amazing. Downtown is kind of frozen in the 1970s and the main pedestrian zone is too big for this town size. The street car is underground which reduced the street vibrancy of the Kaiserstrasse. Most stores and restaurants are outdated. The pedestrianized side streets are without life. Majority of buildings is from the 1960s and 1970s and appear unkept and rundown. Somehow Karlsruhe is an odd place. Getting around by car without the navigation on is a challange.

For the city in general, more English speaking would be better for the city, but it’s understandable why they wouldn’t speak as much English compared to other cities. Regardless I really enjoyed my stay and people were friendly and good hearted in general, I recommend anyone to take a visit when possible.
It’s very simple to get around via public transport. The food is good and there is a lot to choose from.

The city was bigger than expected with a lot to do. The Palace was a museum/gallery rather than a traditional palace and I would highly recommend climbing the tower stairs! Lots of other museums, churches and gardens etc or there are loads of places for shopping.

There's a youthful college-town vibe to the cafes and bars downtown; the city is flat so it's easy to walk everywhere, the Natural History Museum is not to be missed if you like that sort of thing, public transport is better than most, very good restaurant scene

Service was excellent, rooms were clean, beds are good quality and bathroom was sufficient.
The breakfast was excellent.
Close to the train station, walking distance. Free parking for car. WiFi worked great.

It is in a beautiful location in the Schwarzwald.
It is in a beautiful location in the Schwarzwald. The hotel is in a quiet location though a five or so minute walk from the hauptbahnhof. If zoos are your thing there is one literally across the street. The location is well connected with busses, trams, and trains. You can see so many surrounding towns this way. Either get a land ticket (regional trains) or a day ticket (bus and trams).
I would visit again Karlsruhe again.
We loved the place. The beds are comfortable, and the room has a really beautiful interior. Big enough for two people. Spotless clean, which we loved the most. Near to the central station, Karlsruhe Hbf, but really quite, warm and comfy. The center is a 10-15min walk away. From Karlsruhe Hbf, we were able to travel to Colmar and Strasbourg easily.
This hotel will definitely be our first choice again.
We stayed for 1 night only (while driving across Europe). There is nothing in the area and this hotel is probably only suitable for a quick stop. The beds were large and comfy. The room was clean and quiet. We parked for free just outside the hotel (or you can pay 12 Euro to park in their garage).
An excellent breakfast, had the best scrambled eggs ever there (with vegetables). Nice restaurant (art deco atmosphere), very friendly staff. Perfect parking facilities and very reasonably priced. If we go back to Karlsruhe, we will certainly stay in hotel Rio again.
This is the second time we stay here and this hotel never disappoints. The room was nice, comfortable, and as it was during the week, we could park the car in the free spots within the hotel premises. The breakfast was excellent and the staff was nice.
The hotel is conveniently located in the square with easy access to shops, sites and restaurants. Excellent location and proximity to the surrounding points of interest. The breakfast was very good and included many choices.
Compared to a previous experience a few months earlier, at that time in the NEWTON Hotel, the quality of the room slightly decreased and the quality of the breakfast decreased quite a lot while the price remained stable.
The Hotel Elite’s service was exceptional. They made us feel like we were frequent visitor’s even though it was our first stay with them.
Their kindness made the older facilities feel like a family home.

A small very nice hotel close to the city by walking. small rooms, small bathroom, no need for a big room or a huge bathroom, very clean and quiet. I will be back.
The location was pretty good as the city center is quite near. Didn't use the parking slots that the hotel has available, but parking houses are nearby.
