It was very noisy due to the restaurant noises and the patrons leaving the pub.
Just a 5-minute walk from the beach and 2 minutes' walk from the town centre, Hotel Nelson (formerly The Nelson Resort) has a heated swimming pool, fitness centre and a steam room.

We regularly visited Shoal Bay in the 80’s and 90’s for family holidays. We recently returned after many years and love how it hasn’t been overdeveloped but really annoyed by the parking metres. $4.50 per hour to have a coffee or go for a swim or have lunch in a cafe is too expensive. Unfortunately I doubt if we will return

The weather was uncertain but there were opportunities to appreciate the beauty of the bay and the views over Port Stephens. We took advantage of excellent take away from Giannis and mod Thai. The IGA was small but very useful. It was a good location for exploring Nelson Bay, Fingal Bay and Salamander, all worth a visit

Great location across the road from the beach, off street parking and restaurant nearby. Staff were very attentive and friendly and our room had a beach view with lots of dolphins sited from our balcony

Shoal bay has always been a holiday destination for us.
Shoal bay has always been a holiday destination for us. Been many times over the years and it never disappoints. My kids loved it and now the grandkids love the ease of getting to all amenities. The beach is just across the road. Shops within walking distance. Fresh air and wonderful selection is cafes and ice cream shops. The country club is our favourite place to get a great meal. We hired a canoe and paddled out to the beautiful turquoise waters. Can't explain it you have to experience it yourself.

Love the coastal area.
Love the coastal area. Minimal traffic, high rise and not over developed.
Beautiful beaches with blue tranquil water. Definitely Not a surfing beach. White sand .
Seems like a very safe area. Good places to eat. Try the Country Club for a great meal or afternoon cocktails . Also the Atmos Greek Restaurant was very nice. 5 mins drive to Little Bay Boathouse a great restaurant we lived. 10 minutes to the larger town of Nelson Bay if you want to shop, dine, or need anything. Also a wharf there with fresh seafood available.
Well for start, we wr upgraded to unit 3, it was amazing, we wr actually going to stay in a cabin at the van park for 2 nights, no view, lots of other people around ya, but, this place was cheaper, awesome view, beach access right across the road. Inside is perfect, great lounge, awesome bed, magic deck with Shoal views, TV can log in to your own Prime/Netflix/YouTube, washing machine and great shower. We will put this on our regular list, we will never stay anywhere else in Shoal Bay.
The location is nice and quiet, right across from Shoal Bay beach. The shops and restaurants are so close and its a nice stroll to the headland and lookout. We had a problem with the internet and the host contacted us personally and resolved the issue. We would certainly stay here again 👍
The location at Shoal Bay is beautiful. There was a view but the kitchen overlooked it and the lounge had sofas that didn’t face the view. The outdoor area was mouldy and uneven so not inviting at all.
