The 17th-century Old Well Inn is in the town of Barnard Castle, with a traditional cosy bar and spacious en suite rooms that each have a TV and tea/coffee making facilities.

The Castle Wall forms part of the boundary of The Old Well Inn, and the property is located close to the popular antique quarter, in the centre of this historic market town.

The Owners Roy & Rima are such an amazing couple, they really made us feel special even though we were only booked for 1 night. The bedroom (en suite) was enormous, very quaint as you would expect from a 12th Century building (the beer garden wall is part of the old Castle!) but with all the modern amenities we needed! The food is outstanding & the beer & ale choices are plentiful. Wish we could have stayed another night or 2, there's a lot to do & see in this area. We will definitely be back but for longer next time!

Perfect for rustic breaks in the countryside, an Inn is a small property with basic hotel services and typically traditional decor. Inns are fully licensed and have a bar providing food and drinks in the evening, which distinguishes them from country or guest houses.

Very unusual and rustic. It had great facilities for a farm on the outskirts of Barnard Castle. Lovely food, fabulous room.

The room (40) was absolutely lovely, far better than we expected. Very spacious, accessible and so clean. Dinner in the restaurant was oh so good. Very good choices and served by very happy smiley staff. Nothing was too much trouble. If travelling with a dog, the bar is ideal for dinner, and the staff there were also excellent. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. We have changed our 'mid-way' stopover when travelling to Scotland to this hotel, we couldn't rate it highly enough. FABULOUS PLACE, We'll be back soon.

We thoroughly enjoyed the meals we had in both the bar and the main restaurant. Breakfast was a nice surprise in that the continental choice was varied and fresh. Dinner in the main restaurant was cooked beautifully with plenty on offer to please everyone.

The staff went out of their way to make us dinner although we arrived just before the kitchen was about to close. They also helped with early breakfast as we needed to leave before 8am. Best hospitality we've had in very long time. Really nice relaxed vibe and comfortable room.

Fantastic room with rustic style wooden furniture that gave it a charm in keeping with the age of the Inn.
