The cottage had everything you need, like a little home away from home. Loved that the host Charlotte had left fresh eggs, bacon, bread and cereals for breakfast, is a lovely touch.

Escape to the country in Egmont Village. Relax and unwind in a cosy, studio cottage 10mins from New Plymouth at the foot of Mt Taranaki. Post Office Cottage is the perfect base for; - a romantic getaway - walking Mt Taranaki - visiting New Plymouth and exploring Taranaki - meeting our pet sheep (Wallace) and chickens - relaxing on the verandah at the end of the day with a glass of wine - star gazing at night and listening to the birds singing at dawn Relocated to Egmont Village in the 90's, the cottage has a studio layout with living / bedroom in one space, a separate kitchen, bathroom and toilet. In 2019 the studio was fully insulated, and new carpet and a heatpump were installed. The kitchen and bathroom are clean & tidy but not yet renovated (a future project). Relax and sleep well in the Queen Bed complete with crisp white sheets, If you are travelling with children there is a fold out sofa bed and we can provide a portacot and highchair for babies - just ask. The kitchen has a stove, microwave, small fridge, pots, pans and utensils so that you can make your own meals if you wish. We provide breakfast supplies for the first morning.
I'm a New Zealander living in Egmont Village with my family. Before moving to Taranaki, my husband and I spent almost 7 years in The Netherlands working and travelling and our two sons were born there. When we travel, we are drawn to character properties, apartments and self catering properties that give us the flexibility to do what we want when we want. We also enjoy staying in bed and breakfasts where we could chat with the owners and get their tips and local knowledge. We are new to bookingdotcom but have been listing on other short term rental sites since October 2015.
Egmont Village is close to Inglewood and New Plymouth and is known as the gateway to North Egmont on Mount Taranaki. It is 16km staight up the road to the North Egmont Visitors Centre. From the Cottage it's an easy 10min drive into New Plymouth for dining or events, with the seclusion and privacy afforded by being in the country. The Village is small with a local school, petrol station, "Simply Divine Cafe" and some commercial businesses. There is no retail shopping except for a small selection of "basics" at the petrol station. If you plan to make your own meals, we suggest you bring supplies with you from home or stop off at a supermarket to do your shopping on your way. There is always plenty to do in Taranaki, named 2nd best Region in the World by Lonely Planet in 2016 - WOMAD - held annually in March The world acclaimed Len Lye Centre Pukekura Park Festival of Lights Driving Surf Highway 45 Visiting Dawson Falls on Mount Taranaki Driving the Forgotten Highway and Visiting the "Republic" of Whangamomona Powerco Garden Festival Concerts at the Bowl of Brooklands
