All units in the hostel are equipped with a coffee machine. Russkiy Dom provides certain rooms that include city views, and each room includes a shared bathroom with a shower. At the accommodation the rooms come with bed linen and towels. It was the cleanest hostel/ hotel I have ever stayed in. Spotless and modern, excellent kitchen fully equipped. The shower and toilets were separate, which makes a huge difference, also spotlessly clean. Yulya and Sam were outstanding and quickly became "family"

When I researched the accommodation options in Longyearbyen, I noticed some people complaining about the distance to town and simple rooms. Both this facts are clearly stated in the hotel's description and you pay at least half the price compared to other hotels in Longyearbyen, so I don't think it's fair to "punish" them for what we already knew when we decided to book. Even more, we found the room had everything we need, and the walk to town was actually enjoyable, even on the snow-stormy February nights. The staff was absolutely amazing (shoutout to the guy from the dinner shifts), they were helpful and accommodating, gave us a room upgrade and we ended up staying two more nights. Breakfast was quite simple and with limited options, but we found something to eat every day and the restaurant food was delicious. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean, and we enjoyed spending our evenings in the super cosy main room. Definitely great value for money (keep in mind how expensive everything is in Longyearbyen). Given all the above, we already decided that when we'll come back (because we will :) ), we will choose Coal Miners' again.
Barentsburg

Was a very Nice place. Cozy living room with free tea and coffee. Breakfast was great! we stayed in a twin room with shared bathroom as that was the cheaper option - bed could move together and plenty of bathrooms never had to wait. They had a kitchen which is great if you can’t afford to eat out everyday
The bathrooms were in a great condition. Beds were very comfy. The hostel was quite clean, shared kitchen with an amazing view, the shared areas were very comfy. Staff was very kind. We appreciated that breakfast was offered. Guests can also have tea, coffee or hot chocolate anytime. We had sockets right next to our beds.
Polfareren is a great location within easy walk of the shops and adventure activity pickups. The room was a lovely size and the heated bathroom floor was divine. The breakfast was delicious with a big range of food. The cleaning staff were friendly and welcoming.

Very clean and in great location. Bathtubs in the room so you can take warm bath after hiking in freezing weather. Nice area with fireplace and tap beer.
Great location at the top of the town. Very comfortable bed, room nice and warm. Bathroom floor was constantly heated which is nice to warm up your feet quickly after returning from a day in the cold! Staff were very friendly without being overbearing. Common area in reception was lovely to sit in after a day outside, I really liked that I could enjoy reading by the fire. Breakfast buffet was really good.

If coming to Svalbard this is by far the only budget accomodation available. Bearing in mind that it has no real competition, it is still nevertheless a very good hostel. Breakfast pancakes are great, staff are friendly, it is fairly sociable. The rooms are somewhat small, but the kitchen/social area is spacious enough, and in any case if you come to Svalbard for the bedroom then there's really little point.
One of the best hostels I've stayed in. Staff were so friendly and let me stay in the breakfast room till my taxi arrived. I highly recommend this hostel and will definitely be booking them if I get the chance to visit again. :) Free tea and coffee all day were a plus too!
clean and as advertised, view of the mountains next to the hostel is really pretty, staff was so friendly and you get to bunk with so many amazing people in svalbard seeking an adventure, breakfast is awesome, will definitely recommend to any solo travellor to svalbard looking for the cheapest accom and connecting with other like-minded travellors
