Great central location. Very secure entry to the rooms. A well run backpackers hostel with very clean facilities. I stayed in a 6 bed female dorm which was bright with comfortable beds. I didn’t try the free breakfast ( tea coffee, bread and jam). we’re helpful in storing luggage.

Mr Ben, the owner, was the best hostel owner I’ve ever met in NZ! His staff were amazing, too - Matty & Micah, Carmen, Isis, Ai, & 1 more nice guy - they were like my family for my entire 7-day stay! My 8-bed dorm room was very spacious, love the new pine bunks, lounge area & kitchen/dining area also were very spacious! Location was perfect, smack dab in downtown, 5-minute walk to the InterCity bus & local bus stations & Countdown grocery, 1-minute to the main shopping/dining/cafe street, library is across the street, town center is a 2-minute walk! The staff does the laundry for you for a fee. The best part, I was there for the week of Christmas and the owner, Mr Ben, provided & baked a ham & chickens and they were the best baked ham & chickens I’ve ever had - perfectly seasoned, plump, juicy, & sooo tender! He even provided the wines & beers!!! About 1/2 the hostel guests & I participated in cooking/making the side dishes & desserts!!! He even reserved the TV for a group movie time on Christmas Eve & provided popcorns!!!! you rock, Mr. Ben!!! even made signs for the free soups I made for everyone from the leftover chicken & ham bones & meat scraps for soup bases!!! It was the best Christmas ever away from home!!! Thanks a million, Mr Ben & your amazing staff for the best hostel & staff in my 7-wk stay in NZ!!!! Isis, thanks a million for helping me carry my luggages down the stairs!!!

Loved the pretty, old style building. Everything was clean, beds are nice, I liked the common area it had a good view over the town. Guy at the front desk is very friendly and helpful with what you want to see.

Looking for a hostel?

Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.

Very clean, modern room, fabulous bed, most of the staff were friendly. Great location and even though it's right in the city , they clearly have great sound proofing as I hardly heard any traffic.

We were able to book this at a budget price so although decor was a little tired, it was comfortable and clean and provided everything we needed for an overnight stay. Free parking and great location were the bonus.

An amazing historical hotel full of history if you take the time to browse. Beautiful courtyard, old school kiwi bar, chandeliers, clean rooms and friendly staff. Thee best location and very affordable !!! I stayed for 2 nights and loved it. Felt very safe and cozy. Small room with small bathroom with great shower, lots of hot water and great water pressure. 3 beds, like a hostel but better and more affordable. Absolute loved it, walked everywhere.

The staff were super friendly! Check in and out was so quick and easy, the room was comfortable, great location and I loved that the female dorm had a keypad lock instead of a key for that extra sense of security! I would highly recommend this hostel!

Great location near the city center, various shops and Intercity bus stop. Also walking to the Otago Museum was not far. Very good, that not everyone can hang around inside the hostel (only guests have a keycard for this). Nice common rooms and amazing rooftop terrace. The room and bathroom were a good size and very clean.

In terms of youth hostels, it was the best accommodation I have had so far in New Zealand. Unpretentious but comfortable, with everything you need, in a great location and with friendly and helpful staff.
