Fantastic location, great host and beautiful countryside with easy access to many interesting places. Local pubs and restaurants were brilliant too, serving top notch food. The accommodation was perfect for what we needed - everything worked, water was nice and hot and the cottage was warm. We took two smallish dogs, who loved the surrounding walks too! Would not hesitate to return. Thank you James and Joanne 😊
Excellent food both in quality and quantity terms. Very pretty pub in an equally pretty location, just slightly off the beaten track, but in fact less than 10 minutes drive from a main town. Very friendly and helpful staff, a good selection of beers to choose from, and friendly chats with the locals who also eat and drink there (always a good sign of a nice place). Very accommodating of dogs which would encourage me to come back with mine, especially considering the walking opportunities direct from the pub.
Lynn and Pete are lovely hosts. The surroundings is so peaceful wish we could have stayed longer. The room was good and well decorated. Amazing biscuits with kettle etc. Breakfast was perfect with great choice. Hopefully we will go back again soon
locals in pub and some of staff were friendly
We stayed in Barley cottage for one night, but you easily spend a longer time here. There was a friendly vibe to the pub on a Friday night with locals and visitors mingling well. Decent selection of drinks and menu choices.
Locals excellent,
Lovely host Carol who made us feel very welcome and very much at home. Lovely old building with a very spacious bedroom. We loved coming back to a nice relaxing hot bath after our daily 10mile walks on the fells. Breakfast was excellent and Nothing was too much trouble. Plenty tea, coffee, bottled water, & hot chocolate in our room as well as a few extra touches and fresh Milk as a bonus. A beautiful stay in a lovely village.
Yvonne is such a lovely host! She made us feel right at home with her love and warmth. She made delicious breakfasts for us including pancakes and fruit, salmon and poached eggs and full veggie English. She even got me mushroom sausages as I don’t like corn ones! She made the room beautifully clean and dressed up! A home from home stay!
Everything was explained in a welcome email Lovely cottage, great hosts, facilities were exceptional, cottage clean and cozy. Go for a drink at the bowling green pub, staff and locals very friendly. Great place for walkers, although matlock and bakewell a short drive
