The hosts at Aurora were some of the most helpful and welcoming that I've ever had. They greeted us with Tibetan tea on our arrival and when we left, they gave us a small gift bag. We visited during the Spring Festival so some things were closed and transport was not as available, they helped us with this issue. The hotel is located out of Old town and is a 15 minute drive away. They arranged private drivers for hire, drove us into town whenever we needed and helped us organize our COVID tests. They took us to the hospital and to the bus terminal and helped us plan everything. They spoke English and were always available on Wechat. They provide free breakfast and offer dinner on site. This family is so sweet and so extremely helpful! I will be returning simply because of how warm and welcoming they were.

If you want to get away from the crowds at tina’s and halfway house, this is the place to go. Here you can really enjoy the peace and quiet of the gorge and the staff are super helpful. The younger guy who works there speaks good english and will really help with rides and arranging bus travel/bags/etc. The whole family is great and they have the cutest dog in the world - Zhaxi - who loves attention. Tip - you can drive now to a lot of villages on the high trail, so its pretty easy to skip the climb or the descent and either start or end at halfway house and the guy here can pick you up! Either way its still a nice hike but this option makes it a lot easier.

It's centrally located in the 獨克宗古城Dukezhong old town, just 5 mins walk to the famous 轉經筒temple, lots of restaurants and shops nearby. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Good working wifi. Hot shower water. Heating and warm electric blanket are awesome in this chilly weather of Shangri-la. Sometimes we just chilled in the hostel and feeling home here!
