The cosy, family feel of the place made my stay in Yakushima. The lady running the place was so nice and she prepared Onigiri for guests who had planned hikes on the island, which was really convenient. She also plans your sightseeing with you if you want, as she knows the bus schedules and the different things to see quite well. Met some really nice people at the guest house and shared an amazing hot pot on the last night. Tomarigi made my stay in Yakushima. Also, theres a supermarket about 5 minutes away by foot, which was really convenient.

Wooden cottages come with a tatami (woven mat) floor, on which traditional futon bedding is spread for sleeping. They are equipped with a CD player, a microwave and a fridge. A washstand and en suite toilet are provided, while bathroom facilities are shared.

We loved everything about this authentic and peaceful riverside property amidst the forest. We were welcomed warmly and shown around our tatami room, well furnished kitchen, and private cedar bath house. We made use of the free laundry facilities and riverside trail / communal picnic area. The property is located near a bus stop and walking distance to town (a car rental is recommended). Highlights included a cedar chopstick making workshop and bathing in the cedar bath tub looking out onto the forest. Falling asleep to the sound of the river and forest was also lovely.
