Apollo Resort is located right on the white sand beaches of Yakushima Island’s north-east coast. Rooms include a sofa and private bathroom, and open directly onto a terrace overlooking the sea.

The food was really imcredible - so many delicious Japanese dishes for dinner and breakfast. Only 4 guest room and each looks out onto the sea. Staff were superb especially the 81 year old working manager who is so sweet! No one speaks English there although our group speak Japanese. We used this as a base to do the 30KM Jomon Sugi (cedar) hike to one of the world's oldest trees - some 7000 years old. Tough hike in light rain and slippery in places but well worth it.
Located at the edge of a peninsula on Yakushima Island, samana hotel Yakushima offers great views of the ocean and Mount Motchom.

The view to the ocean was really nice from the terrace. There was a bathtub.
Situated a 15-minute drive from Yakushima Airport, La Isla Tasse is charming accommodation housed in a large American-style mansion.

The hosts are truly welcoming and friendly, going to great lengths to make the hotel feel like a home. The breakfast is delicious and filling, and there are great restaurants nearby for dinner.
Shiratani Unsuikyo was breathtaking. Jumonsugi Cedar trail was an adventure but not as pretty as Shiratani Unsuikyo. I am glad I did it but would not do it again. I will remember Shiratani Unsuikyo for the rest of my life as one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and I have travelled a lot. Words cannot describe how beautiful it was. I wish I had 4 nights here. I needed one more day to explore the island. People should think twice about doing Jumonsugi trail. It is a lot and quite hard. Do it for the adventure but not for the views.

Incredible island full of wonderful nature toe explore, I could have spent 5 days here probably, although a car rental would be really helpful. The buses and taxis are relatively expensive and not always available or convenient.

You have to hike on Yakushima to really appreciate it.
You have to hike on Yakushima to really appreciate it. The drive into the hills to get to these walks is incredible. The walks through moss and forests of ancient trees is brillant. It is like stepping into another world on Yakushima. If not into hiking, then the waterfalls and beaches and tide pools are also great.

It is an amazing island with beautiful nature and scenery but not well developed infrastructure and scarce public transport system. Best to rent a car, otherweise it limits activity on the other side of the island. Realisticly speaking the one destination visit per day is maximum with public transport. It is also necessary to begin early, as there are not really activities just for a half day (due to bus schedules). Therefore a 3 days stay may be a bit too short considering travel time with a ferry. It is good idea to shop before reaching island as there is limited supermarket choice.

Very wild Island.
Very wild Island. Good for people liking forest and trails, not good for people liking beaches. Not touristic Island. Organic Island, locals people are nice and helping. No shops. 7 days is enough to stay and visit.

We loved being in nature every day.
We loved being in nature every day. Almost wherever you go, you have a view of the mountains and ocean. There are beautiful flowers everywhere. The less demanding hiking trails are interesting and fun and the waterfalls are spectacular. The onsens--especially the ocean onsen--are varied. The residents are friendly and helpful.
I loved the beautiful view. The room was comfortable and perfect for a solo traveler. I liked that it had a Japanese traditional feel even if it was not a traditional building. it was also nice to have the sentō and the laundry machines to use. I made friends with one of women who worked there and she was so nice and welcoming to me. The owner of the hotel was friendly and brought me around to see some nature highlights. The hotel felt like an extended family. I was here for a week and was very content and I would stay here again.
This is the second part of the same stay which I've reviewed already; please see my other review for details. We like the place pretty much and will not hesitate to stay here again. Exceptionally clean (even by Japans standard!), quiet, conveniently located to everything important in the Island cottage, perfect for a couple. Kitchen, albeit small, is pretty adequate for self catering (even for longer stays). Nice laundry facilities make daily chores simple and quick. Even little things like boots dryer are available. Thanks!
Loved our stay at Cottage Morinokage. Beautiful cottages. Spacious, clean, and great facilities. Mr Nakashima is a wonderful host. He kindly assisted us with renting a vehicle for our stay in Yakushima, and gave us a helpful and comprehensive tour of our cottage and the shared facilities on our arrival, despite it being later in the evening. There are washing machines and dryers for use which was a huge help. There are also vending machines onsite for drinks and some basic food and snacks.
A beautiful hotel with fully equipped cabins that feel like luxury in the countryside. The outdoor bath and hammock feature exceptional sea views. Beds were extremely comfortable. The food was amongst the best we had in Japan, each meal was truly exceptional. The owners are kind and caring, and can offer excellent advice about sightseeing and hikes.
Renting a car is a necessity to reach this hotel, but is also highly recommended as the best way to explore Yakushima.
- Simple yet beautiful room on the second floor of the new building / great view on the mountains.
- Fully equipped hotel with spotless kitchen and laundry room.
- shared bathroom and toilets were extremely clean.
- Fresh towels every day.
- Very nice and helpful staff at the front desk, we were welcomed with informations on the area and a map for hikes.
- Cafes and dinner options in the area, even in low season (we visited in February)
The amazing island Yakushima along with its friendly people. We had an amazing experience for our last stop of our honeymoon trip to Japan. We rented a car for the days we were staying and this is really recommended since you're able to explore and see much more of the island. Shouji-san and Mami-san were super kind and we facilitated us in every way possible. Thank you so much for an unforgettable trip!
hotel staffs are very kind and the location was so convenient.
Especially one of the staff was so kind that he always open to suggest local spots to visit and these were all so beautiful. (My recommendation was crystal-misaki which was close from the hotel by car). I am just so thankful to the staff all the time (I am so sorry about I didn’t ask him name…,)
It's in a good location - right near the ferry and some restaurants. The bathroom was clean. There were two little rooms, one for men and one for women. There was never anyone else in the bathroom when I needed it. There is a kitchen that has a fridge and a microwave and some plates and bowls. The old woman who runs it is kind.
Mike and Keiko welcomed us at the ferry to hand over our car: we got valuable hints to visit the island with our 2 kids!
The house is just perfect: we loved it! And the terrace, the garden and the sea view…
Waow!
Of course Mike and Keiko gave us snorkeling gears also to enjoy the wonderful sea life!
Very comfortable place in a quiet spot of the island - great for visiting the sea onsen. The guest house has simple meals and snacks you can purchase and the owner, Hiro-san, was very knowledgeable and happy to tell you more about Yakushima.
The hostel owner is really friendly and happy to help, we felt like a family there. Facilities are clean, big kitchen with all what we needed available. Very great value - a gem in Yakushima! We will stay again.
A wonderful, caring host, good people, and great atmosphere. Definitely the highlight of my trip! Perfect location right across from Yakushima airport and walkable grocery stores. Will definitely visit again!
Hostel owner is the best! He knows everything and I love how his eyes sparkled even though he has repeated this info for years :))
You can get some food from the hostel if you don’t have time to buy dinner.
Spacious, comfortable, relaxing and welcoming. A stylish and practical base for exploring Yakushima. It was great for two of us but would also be perfect for a larger group.
Miki, the host, made a wonderful breakfast every morning with local Yakushima produce! She was very sweet and helpful with any questions about the island we had. : )
