Great location and price. Everything is in walking distance. The room was clean and the bed was very comfy. Great service. Carola is amazing and very accommodating. This is my new go to place!
This place is a total scam. When you book through other websites, they do not notify you that the road is closed at half an hour from the hotel. My wife and I took a total of six paid days off of work, drove 300 miles, and then we were turned away 30 minutes from the hotel. When calling the lady wanted us to take a 150 mile detour to get to the hotel. We ended up, scrambling and trying to figure out what to do, spending a lot of money on a last-minute hotel and ruined our entire vacation. They seem perfectly happy taking peoples money, knowing perfectly well they can’t get there. The least they could do is make a courtesy phone call if somebody is booking outside of their website or some kind of notification. Screw this business and the lack of compassion and empathy when asking for a refund was inhumane. You not only took my money but you ruined an entire vacation. Screw all of you guys.

The Valley is stunning and our favourite place in the US.
The Valley is stunning and our favourite place in the US. The drive there is magical and the scenery and walks are amazing. Avoid the overpriced tourist traps and spend some time getting into the wild.

There are several rooms across the highway 1 from the main facility. We were given one of there rooms. It was not was not disclosed to us ahead of time that we would have to walk across a busy highway. I am handicaped. Make sure you are not booked for one of these rooms since there is no crosswalk, sign to watch out for pedestrians or flashing light. Very dangerous! The facility was full so we could not be moved so we had to drive another 4 hours to find a place to stay for the night. The website for Big Sur River Lodge doesn't show these rooms on their main page. It looks like all rooms are near the restaurant, pool, store and river relaxation area. It is very decieving.

The Big Sur coastline is the most beautiful part of the California coastline! The windy drive is a little nerve racking, but the rugged beauty and the amazing turquoise blue color of the ocean are a feast for the eyes. The people in Big Sur are also very nice. Everyone needs to see Big Sur at least once in their lifetime. McWay Falls is breathtaking! Must have lunch or dinner at Nepenthe! The food is great and the location is magical.

The place is located at state park with options for trails. There was no breakfast so that's somewhat inconvenient. The room itself as a nice fireplace, a hot tub in the terrace and a comfortable bed. But the shower is tiny.

We liked Big Sur Lodge, the scenery along Hwy. 1, and the walk to to Pfeiffer waterfall in the Park 13 miles south. It's fairly easy to get around if the drive does not intimidate you. But the shortage of park rangers makes it difficult to find certain trails & info. We liked eating and sitting at the River Inn. Forget going to Point Lobos. It is so crowded you can't park near the main hiking trail, and you may, in fact, not be able to park there at all. Sadly, Big Sur is becoming too popular and crowded on holidays or in the summer. Go there at the other times.
It was way more than I expected. I loved everything about it and I do mean everything. I do plan to return as soon as possible. Not sure why anyone would pay $1500 for a night stay at neighboring hotels when this one has everything at your fingertips and I do mean everything. We are two African-American women traveling alone, and unfortunately our fellow nature lovers aren’t always friendly to us, but we had NO problems with Fernwood Resort. We didn’t even mind there was no television! May God bless them and their businesses!
I loved the campground site. There is a beautiful river around the campgrounds which we were able to hear running while at our campsite. I love the dim lighting at night, we were provided free firewood for the first night and you can purchase another set for $10 which was cheaper than the nearby stores. The staff was exceptional and very kind. One of them provided us with an entire itinerary that was amazing. Only issue was the futon bed was not that comfortable but it was tolerable
Large and nicely decorated room. Proper glass cups in the room rather than plastic as we've had nearly everywhere else in the USA - good for the environment! Staff very friendly, especially the waitress for dinner who was great and super LGBT+ friendly! Great location close to the sights of Big Sur and has it's own trial up to the top of the mountain through the red woods.
The premises are amazing, the true star of the stay. Amidst a beautiful forest with giant trees. The walks around the camping grounds and to the restaurant are beautiful. Just take the car out of the driveway and your nearby all the main sights of Big Sur, Pfeiffer beach, Big Sur Bakery, hiking spots etc.
Lovely hotel in the mountains.
Good brunch on Sunday.
Enjoyed the walk to Pfeiffer Falls.
Great pool area.
Cabins were comfortable and large fan in the room was welcome.
Very peaceful and quiet plus no cell/wifi coverage or TVs so a real switch off to relax.
Absolutely stunning property. Surrounded by redwoods with incredible views of the coast. Very peaceful. The staff were very kind and helpful. The room was clean and well maintained. Close to the best hikes in Big Sur.
