The town close to Auckland with a beautiful and big beach.
The town close to Auckland with a beautiful and big beach. It has some restaurants and a shop with basic things to buy. It is a great place to relax and escape from the big city. There are also some nice tracks in the forest.

Known for the beach and its surf, Piha is perfectly located for those wishing to explore the Waitakere Ranges. The township is very small so if you’re staying for a few days it would pay to bring your own food & drink supplies.

Piha is renowned as a 'must see' for its amazing beach with dramatic rocks surrounding, also as a surf venue, though take care in the water, there are strong waves and currents. It's a small community at the end of a long steep road. No village centre as such, but there are some place to eat/drink.

Fabulous beach with gorgeous setting.
Fabulous beach with gorgeous setting. We climbed the Lion Rock and went to both ends of the beach. a terrific walk to the Kitekite Falls is absolutely worth the trip. Went twice and the second time I went in for a brief swim at the base of the falls. Also great sunsets on the beach!

Piha/Karekare is a stunningly beautiful area and well worth a visit. Go to the waterfall and also see the local beeches. Also eat at Piha cafe as it is really good. Just watch our for the mosquitoes at night though.

If I had my time over, I wouldn't have gone to Piha.
If I had my time over, I wouldn't have gone to Piha. The drive was terrifying with other drivers speeding around the corners and steep hills - you'd turn a corner and there would be a car well over the centre line!
Very limited food options in Piha - there's 1 cafe that is ridiculously over priced and 1 store that doesn't stock much at all. No where to buy alcohol that isn't on premises only and i wasn't doing the drive back to Auckland just for food and drink.
The accommodation is set in a lovely subtropical valley, with views across to a nicely kept lawn, stream and cross-valley hillside. You truly feel far away from things yet still very close to Piha Beach. Kitekite Falls are close but unfortunately the track was closed during our short one-night stay. The common areas (living, kitchen, fireplace, toilets, showers) were clean, well-stocked, and conducive to nice interactions with other guests. The host Geoff was very attentive and helpful.
