Wanaka is a very pretty place, but it has become a mini Queenstown. It is so busy with tourists and camper vans. The shops in town centre are all very pricey and tourist oriented, accomodation is expensive. It was shoulder season but still busy.
We ate at Big Fig Wanaka, Relishes Cafe and Federal Diner.
We enjoyed the food caravans esp Charlie Browns & Dripping Bowl
Cocktails at Water Bar were excellent.
The best food experience was Bistro Gentil. 5 star service and food was out of this world. Definitely a place to go back to but not for budget priced meals!

The views of the lake and surrounding area are really stunning. It’s seemed a really peaceful place with just enough to do. Plenty of eating out places to choose from and many activities and places to visit. We will definitely be back.

A wholesome town just outside of Queenstown.
A wholesome town just outside of Queenstown. I could've stayed here weeks. It was a great location to be based at for Roy's Peak Summit, more hiking and days spent by the lake. Bonus activity was a dinner and movie night at Cinema Paradiso. A really lovely town with a very live-able atmosphere.
Large and spacious room with beautiful mountain and lake views. Was dark enough at night to stargaze and see the Milky Way outside our room. Parking assigned right outside room so loading/ unloading of luggages was very convenient. The hotel restaurant makes delicious pizza too.
everything! literally everything. i wish i can come back and stay here again!
-comfortable and warm bed and blankets.
-clean room and toilet
-spacious
-complete kitchenette
-complimentary coffees and teas
-more like a hotel than a budget motel!
We were in room 412 upstairs with a lovely view of the lake. The staff on reception were very friendly and professional. The hotel is only a ten minute walk along the shore to the Wanaka tree.
Luxury apartments with all the facilities you require for a family- laundry, clothes drier, large fridge/freezer. Heated floors were lovely and very comfortable beds. Close to wanaka.
