The Greytown Hotel, hotel in Carterton

Featuring free WiFi and a restaurant, The Greytown Hotel offers accommodation in an historic building, which has been licensed since 1860. Guests can enjoy the on-site restaurant.

My partner and I felt as we arrived to Greytown that the owner of the hotel was really inviting and warm. Location is close to town and also had history to it as well as the town itself. One side of the hotel of the room is small and is raging away from the traffic of that room and it was more peaceful for the price that you pay will be compact and the other room option for an extra $10 is slightly bigger and that one will be closer to the open road and noise as you look out the window. Rooms are upstairs and the stairs were old and stairs were squeaking loud especially on arrival. Small room we slept in had no TV as well if you want to unwind. Bed was just right and that the room being above the guests had to share the bathroom. Bathroom shared was a reasonable price but be sure to bring your own amenities to use and the shower had great flow and pressure and is great for an aching body after a long day. Restaurant was also friendly staff on arrival made us sit down and service was good when taking orders was patient and waited until we were seated. It wasn't busy and quite quiet yet it was a bit late in the evening when my partner and I decided to try something from the menu. Food was okay.

Wyett House, hotel in Carterton

The best girls weekend getaway ! This home is oozing with charm as it has beautiful decor to complement the old style house and is very welcoming from the moment you arrive . Carmel was a great hostess as she welcomed us early and had great facilities with coffee, tea , and orange juice . She also baked a lovely slice for us which was so yummy. The home was very warm and we enjoyed having the open fire lit for the evening in the lounge where we could read and play board games. The gardens were also beautiful and well maintained. Overall our stay was one to remember and we would love to come again . Also George the cat was a great bonus !

Loved the setting and area so much that we stayed an extra night, not wanting to leave. Nice relaxing region, noticed a lot of shops opened later and closed earlier than other places, or only opened on certain days, which made it easier to relax and unwind.

Very friendly place. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance from our accommodation. Like just across the road is Fish & Chips plus Chinese Takeaways. Supermarket just a few minutes away.

I was impressed with the modern stonehenge built out on a farm 10-15 minutes outside Carterton. I never knew it existed prior to the trip, but was a really interesting place to visit. There's a good selection of wineries to visit and the wildlife centre out at Mount Bruce was well worth a visit.

This is an exceptional rural town steeped in history and a strong sense of community. I think it’s a great place. Don’t drive through. Stop and learn and explore and enjoy. You might even want to move there!

Great parking, not overrun with 'out of towners'. Great eateries; Wild Oats and Balter. Friendly service, good variety of food, pleasant ambience, not too noisy. Good value for $. Visited a delightful railway set up in Rhodes Street. Missed the Paua World, it's closed.
