Called the 'City of Sails' due to the large number of yachts anchored in Waitemata Harbour, Auckland is the largest city of both New Zealand and Polynesia. Built on the Auckland Volcanic Field featuring about 48 extinct volcanoes, this city truly offers a blast!
Auckland is a real cultural mix with strong Asian, European, Maori and Polynesian influences, celebrated in frequent festivals and sporting events. Some examples of these cultures can be seen at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, one of the best in New Zealand. For more, try the upmarket dining of the Viaduct Harbour.
Another must-see is the tallest free-standing tower in the Southern Hemisphere, the Sky Tower. If you’re feeling up to the challenge, you can even perform the Sky Jump, a controlled base jump from 192 metres!
Climbing the volcanic cones as well as the stunning Auckland Harbour Bridge will provide unforgettable, panoramic views of the city’s skyline. For a different perspective, why not try a cruise or sea kayaking?

Although we were in Auckland for a Trade Show Event, it was the atmosphere being down at the Viaduct amongst it all, like looking out to the beautiful yacht's parked in the viaduct, the restaurants & cafes.
Just around the corner was the sky city tower & casino which was only a few minutes walk away.
Our uber was so nice & friendly like everyone that we met in Auckland.

Stayed in Auckland many times but this time I want to return.
The viaduct is vibrant and lots to see without having to get in the car.
Lots of Restaurants and Bars and action.
We ate in the Viaduct and avoided going up town. Auckland is quite hilly and disjointed.

I lived the first 30+ years of my life in Auckland, and was...
I lived the first 30+ years of my life in Auckland, and was a hotel Concierge in several of its best hotels for 10 of those. From that perspective, I have a detailed and intimate knowledge of the city’s many (once) great attributes.
As the country’s primary gateway, with most of New Zealand’s more famous attractions found outside of Auckland, the city nevertheless did once manage to offer some unique opportunities -Muriwai and the west coast beaches, Rangitoto extinct volcano exploration, Waiheke Island vineyard dining, and even limited whale watching options just 30mins sailing from the CBD.
But that was in its helsion days some 20 years ago. Since then, and particularly since C19, both central and local government have sort to systematically drown it in debt, massacre it’s infrastructure, and general make it a much less attractive place to visit, let alone live or work. As such, I avoid Auckland as much as I can. It is still easily the biggest population centre in NZ, but the fact that construction is stalled in the North Island (2024), but not in the South Island, suggests that Kiwis are leaving it to the new arrivals. Auckland certainly isn’t Gaza, but it’s nothing like it once was either.
Note - I didn’t comment on the “places” listed because my opinions would appear callous -hence no comment.

That our accommodation was close to the Auckland hospital as our purpose was to visit friends, having Ubers makes life easy getting around Auckland it’s cheap and fast. We loved getting takeaways from BFC Korean so yummy and fast, they are in Queen street and close to so many other food options.
This was the night of the Auckland flood when we were bumped from a flight and then had another hotel give away a room that we had booked. We were very grateful to be able to get a room at the Holiday Inn that would accommodate 3 adults. The hotel was very clean and had very comfortable beds. Big windows in the room looked out over the city - a great view. It was surprisingly quiet. The breakfast that was included in the tariff was ample and had a good selection.
Perfect location - sitting on the City Link bus route. Buses every few minutes into town and only minutes from CBD, Britomart etc
Loved K Road on a Thurs night! Vibrant, diverse, busy, music, DJ’s, great food, great community-heaps of fun! Great shopping and great eateries.
Comfy beds, clean, well equipped. Everything we needed for a short stay.
Shuttle bus to airport leaves regularly from SkyTower- very convenient.
Good room with all the amenities we expected. The hotel is located very close to Auckland Domain, a big park with a very nice museum. Auckland city centre is a 30 min walk away, which for us was perfect as we like to do things on foot. Also, it was nice that the hotel is located in a quiet area, away from all the noise and chaos of the big city. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet very much.
The Auckland City Hotel looks really cool inside and it’s interesting to read about its history. The location was exactly what we were looking for to experience and explore downtown Auckland. It’s a stones throw from Sky City, which was perfect. Room service from the restaurant downstairs was also a big plus as we got in late and didn’t want to take the kids out into the city at night.
We like to leave a day and have a comfortable bed in between flights. What could be more convenient than walking out of the terminal and straight into the hotel. A restaurant, room service, flexible arrival and departure times; Auckland and the Novotel combo is a favourite stopover. If it was a little cheaper it would be better but it is a bargain compared to say Changi airport hotels.
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff are lovely and so helpful. The room was a great size with fantastic city views over Auckland CBD. The bed and pillows were so comfy and the bathroom was great. The location is 5-10 minutes walk to the sky tower and good restaurants.
SkyCity Hotel is in the center of everything, including the Sky Tower - which one accesses through the lobby. The rooms were large, well stocked and comfortable. The airport bus comes directly to the hotel. We would definitely stay here again on another trip to Auckland.
Booked the cheapest apartment on offer for a last-minute one-night Auckland stay with the family when in town to catch the rugby. Great value for money, good location, easy check-in and parking was simple and easy to find using the directions on the hotels website.
The location was great! Very convenient and close to all the amenities. There's a Metro Countdown and a very nice cafe right underneath the hotel. The beds are comfy and the staff are very helpful. Would recommend it to whoever wants to explore Auckland CBD.
I really loved the service - getting picked up by the hotel and dropped off at the Auckland International Airport was a great bonus and being able to park our vehicle somewhere secure for free for the week. Top notch staff and real close to airport.
The room was a little run-down but it had a lovely decor and the little courtyard was nice. Good facilities in the room (microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, tv). Nice size room. Parking was relatively cheap compared to other hotels around Auckland.
Love the location close to Spark Arena, all amenities within 5min of Hotel. 5 - 10 min walk to the city. Easy access to all motorways access to Sothbound northbound and to the West aide of Auckland i12ks or so to the Trust Arena West Auckland.
Relatively close to the airport, although not as close as other hotels and comparably cheap. Rooms were clean and modern and had everything you need. I literally just stayed for 5 hours and slept while I had to wait for my connecting flight.
Buffet breakfast. Parking is a breeze. Drive is accessible to about anywhere...city...airport.....malls....restaurants. Room is comfy. Tv channels galore. And that robot vacuum, feels like the hotel is always clean.
A great budget hotel within a few minutes walk of the Auckland CBD, Queens Street and the University.
Has on-site parking, good security and friendly staff.
I would come back.
Location in between Auckland airport and city centre, short distance of driving to both directions.
