As one of the biggest cities in the world, Mexico City could be better described as an experience than a city. Founded in 1325 by the Aztecs as Tenochtitlan, it was both destroyed and rebuilt by the Spanish in the 16th century. Nowadays, it is the capital of the United Mexican States and its most important economic and cultural center.
The city center’s cornerstone is the famous Plaza de la Constitución, commonly called Zócalo. It's surrounded by the presidential Palacio Nacional and the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral.
The Avenida de la Reforma was built under the brief rule of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Austria, while the deposed president Porfirio Díaz left a characteristic fusion of French-Mexican architecture. The 1960s saw a demographic explosion that only now is starting to be completely absorbed.
From the Chapultepec Parks and the chic Polanco, to the gay area of Zona Rosa and the Bohemian and intellectual Coyoacán: let Mexico City tell you its thousand secrets and stories.
Most of the hotels are located around the Reforma area, the Insurgentes Avenue and the Zócalo. If you’re looking for 5-star hotels in Mexico City, the modern Santa Fe area has a recently redeveloped business sector.

It's a huge city with many faces, you can find almost everything, nice places, ugly places, etc.. Better to visit with a local or with local advise. Be prepared for long distances trips and a lot of traffic jams.

We spent a week in Roma Norte and just scratched the surface, (walking tour of Centro, Guided tour of Chapultepec and The Museum of Archeology, Polanco/ Masaryk, Teotihuacan and the Shrine of Guadalupe, Frida Kahlo museum.) It took a few days to get our bearings but now that we have them, cdMX will definitely be on our list for future getaways,(we live in San Miguel de Allende part of the year). There are too many wonderful restaurants, lots of great parks and sights, shopping and generally a fantastic international vibe. I really thought it was terrific.

Mexico City was really interesting.
Mexico City was really interesting. With six days, we had lots of time to explore, take tours and just wander around. We were given some tips on where not to go (for safety reasons), but we did not feel unsafe at all.
The Mexico a pie walking tour of the Zocalo area was great. It was organized and paid for by the hotel. I would have liked other tours from this organization, but six days was just not enough time!
We liked eating the street food and small hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Cheap and good. I was constantly concerned about getting sick but generally this was OK. I did get lower GI problems one day I think from have a coke that had ice--won't do that again.
Took a tour of Xochimilco, Coyoacan, the Frida Kahlo house, and the murals at UNAM. A great tour from Amigo Tours.
Also a tour of Teotihuacan & Basilica Guadalupe from ViewMexTours.
Cookies at Pastelería Ideal. Visiting a large mexican pastry shop like this one is a real trip.
Liked the Chapultepec Castle Museum and Museo Nacional de Anthropologia.
Also the view of the Palacio Belles Artes from the 7th floor Sears restaurant is not to be missed.
Ate at Cafe de Tacuba for a traditional meal experience. Not too far walking from the restaturant.

More expensive than other parts of Mexico but a lot cheaper than the only other place I know that compares to it--New York City. It's a huge sprawl but has intimate neighborhoods; Coyoacan is my favorite. Uber is the best way to get around.

This is an amazing city full of life and history!
This is an amazing city full of life and history! It is not for the faint of heart because it is extremely crowded and the traffic is like nothing I've seen before. The museums are amazing, especially the anthropolgy museum. The pyramids are a bit of a drive but well worth visiting. If you are looking to be right in the action and don't mind a bit of noise, stay need Centro/Zocolo. If you prefer a bit more quiet and want to be near the museums, stay near the park and Castle. Don't rent a car! Driving here would be a terrifying experience I think. Uber/Taxi. And plan to walk a lot!
The Historico Central Boutique Hotel is a slice of paradise in Mexico City. All the staff from reception to the dining room are wonderful. The rooms are luxurious and the beds feel like being in the clouds. Every floor has a basket of free fruit plus a fridge with free water bottles. Included in the room cost was 24 hour free food and coffee from their cafe. On the Day of the Dead parade there were makeup artists in the foyer to paint the guests! An exceptional hotel which I’m happy to say I’ll be going back to stay in, in 4 months.
Hotel employees were very friendly and helpful, and some of them even spoke quite good English. I'm not much of a fan of daily cleanings, and the maids didn't get pushy about it until about the fifth day. Was able to explore by walking around Reforma, Condesa, Roma, and Hipodromo. Was able to easily hail a cab in front of the hotel, and took the cab to Polanco and explored there a couple hours on foot and then walked from there back to the hotel. Felt completely safe at all times.
This hotel was perfect for our 5 day trip exploring Mexico city. The hotel was modern and well priced. We opted for the cheapest room which was fairly small but the room was very comfortable with comfortable bed, air conditioning, a fridge and a good shower. The smart TV was huge and the WiFi worked well. The buffet breakfast was good and had a wide selection. The location was great, next to the metro and a short walk to the cathedral square. Staff were helpful and attentive.
Lovely place, right in the centre of Mexico City, easily reachable from the airport and a great starting point to explore!
Wolf recommended us a lovely roof terrace. He is a super kind and sweet person - and as per other reviews, his breakfasts are AMAZING! His house is also fantastic, full of books and paintings.
A way more genuine experience than your usual hotel!
The best thing about this Hotel was the location. I was in a great area and close to lots of bars, restaurants and coffee shops etc. The pool area on the rooftop was nice, great place to chill out, however the pool was ridiculously shallow. The gym, although very basic, did provide what I needed for my time in Mexico city.
