Small hotel with only 12 "beehives" meant it never felt crowded and the staff knew everyone. Pool was very nice and the views were amazing. Service, especially from Rani excellent. Food and drink good value for money

Haputale is a small, sleepy Sri Lankan town - as opposed to a tourist town - in a beautiful hill country setting. It is much quieter and much cheaper to stay in than the tourist hot-spots of Nuwara Eliya or Ella, with a range of locally-run guesthouses, rooms and restaurants. The sleepy train station connects it with Colombo, Kandy and Ella, buses pass through and tuk-tuks can take you to nearby waterfalls or the iconic Lipton's Seat from which the stroll down through tea fields is stunning. There are several Olives restaurants in Haputale - Viewpoint was our favourite both for food and a stunning view. If you want a party then avoid Haputale as you'd be bored.

The trip to Lipton's seat takes about 5 hours round trip but is amazing...much better experience than the tour book suggested. An absolute delight was the opportunity to have tea and excellent snacks while in c the clouds at the peak...for an amazingly low price.
Views from our balcony were spectacular and the food - both dinner and breakfast - was top notch

Haputale is no substitute for Ella it's an extra stop.
Haputale is no substitute for Ella it's an extra stop. Haputale has fabulous views right in town and from your lodge, but there is a draught of travellers hang out cafés, while in Ella, you got to hike for the views, the town is packed with cafés and restaurants that makes you want to stay longer. Lodges in Haputale doesn't seem to put people together for shared transport to Horton plains anymore. Almost nobody is going there. I got a very good deal on transport there, but bailed in the gate and went back, due to extortionate entrance fees that added up to $49 for 1 person! - for a 3h hike!!!! - Lipton seat is well worth it though. Go early in the day before the clouds are covering it. The ride up takes you through beautiful tea plantations as well.

It's a lovely and unique area for trekking and hiking. The weather is wonderful, it's a place where the weather changes 6 times a day. Beautiful.
Bambarakanda Falls, Diyaluma Falls, Upper Diyaluma, Haputale Mountain, Lipton's Seat, and Horton Plains are nearby places. Adhisham's Bungalow is another unique experience to see the wildlife in night.

Easy access to famous Adisham bungalow and numerous walking trails. Good base for excursions to Horton Plains, Lipton's Seat, and impressive waterfalls. Haputale station is on scenic railway line through Hill Country. Best to stay in a guesthouse in the surrounding countryside rather than in town centre.
The views really give this property the ‘wow’ factor. It was wonderful being surrounded by nature - we spotted lots of beautiful birds, butterflies and palm squirrels around the hotel grounds. We loved our beehive rooms - the bathroom in particular was really nicely done and there was plenty of hot water. The food was for the most part very good, varied and reasonably priced. The staff are very welcoming, attentive and keen to please. The price point is a little steep but you’re paying for a very unique experience.
A delightful place to stay a few days. Inspiring views, gorgeous gardens and tea estate, great cottages with blissfully quiet terraces, and incredibly thoughtful and professional staff. Do ask the team to help you organise hiking and sightseeing in the area - there is a lot to see in beautiful Haputale, and you won't regret it.
Mr and Mrs Mohamed gave us a very warm welcome. They run a delightful guest house near to the centre of Haputale with large, clean rooms, hot shower and delicious meals if requested. I highly recommend Bel View guest house.
