I booked the private bathroom and this was amazing! The owner was polite and made us a traditional set dinner meal I had booked. The location is beautiful also; we chose Lake Yamanakako to avoid the busy other lakes; but drove around from here and it was close to everything. I really enjoyed the ryokan experience. Our room had a lovely view of the mountain, as does the rooftop; we got up early to watch the sun rise over it.

Very warm welcome from the owners, a very nice couple who will do their best to communicate with you with their electronic translator. The place is big and comfortable. Supposedly it has a view on mount Fuji but it was cloudy so we couldn't see it.

We did not have time to explore the town at all, but overall seemed like a beautiful place by the lake. Would highly recommend because I think this place is less mobbed by tourists that Fujikawaguchiko.

It was a nice place to stop for a few days before heading back to Tokyo.
Great places to eat and beautiful walks around the lake.
There is a bathhouse not to far from the hotel but they do not allow tattoos- no exceptions.

This is a beautiful area full of nature and amazing views.
This is a beautiful area full of nature and amazing views. I went in October so out of the main season and it was nice and quiet with not many visitors around.
Renting a Swan boat and feeding the ducks was great fun!
I couldn't find a single vegetarian restaurant in town so something to be aware of if you don't eat meat or fish.
Just be aware of the army base from which you can hear artillery fire every day. It's loud and a little disconcerting!
I think Yamanakako is less touristy than Kawaguchiko which for me is a good thing.

It's a great area if you like outdoorsy activities.
It's a great area if you like outdoorsy activities. There's several hiking trails around the Lake, which are well marked and reward you with an awesome view of Fujisan when you get to the destination. The trails up to Mt Takazasu and Mt Myojin are good and take in the Panorama-Dei spot which is popolar for viewing Fujisan. All-day parking is available at Yamanakako Community Plaza Kirara, and the trailheads are 20-30min walk away from there.
There is also a very nice 15km cycling path around the Lake, which is a very long but pleasant walk. If you're not outdoorsy, then the options are more limited to the nice restaurants, and there are high end and nice lower-priced options (Denny's, Cafe Gusto). There are also various onsen and sento in the town.

Pros - Mt Fuji is a glory to see so close up and the clouds and the skyline around the mountain were in a constant dance of change - breathtaking. The reflections of the sunset clouds on the lake were were dazzling. The freshness of the pristine air. The lack of high humidity. The sense of well-being offered by the area. The vehicles stopped at zebra crossings which isn't always the case in certain cities.
Cons - At times we have to walk on the road within half a metre of passing vehicles. That could have possible unwanted outcomes.

Yamanashi in general was gorgeous.
Yamanashi in general was gorgeous. We stayed at Yamanakako and it was a great place to stay at to get away from the stressful work environment in the city. We didn't get to eat at any local restaurants since we were too busy exploring the surrounding areas but you won't be left wanting for food options since everywhere you go, there's a restaurant nearby and they all looked so good. I think it would be more convenient if you travel around by car since the bus fare can get a little expensive if you're traveling far.
Amazing place to stay!
The owner is friendly and showed us around. It is well kept and clean. The room is very homey and spacious. We would have had a direct view of MT FUJI and Lake Yamanaka but during our one night stay it kept hidden. Beautiful place nonetheless.
The pillows in the room were surprisingly comfortable in spite of it being different than standard pillows. It's of grainy type and we ended up buying something similar as it helped with our sleep. The comfiest we've had during our trip.
Highly recommended!!
My stay at the Murabito guesthouse was simply wonderful! First of all, kindness, sympathy, generosity and benevolence are the words that sum up the owners Marino and Kei well. In addition, they speak perfect English which makes communication much easier for people who do not speak Japanese. Then the house is really clean and the beds are really comfortable. Finally, the house benefits from an excellent location, very close to Lake Yamanakako and a beautiful view of Mount Fuji. Thank you very much for this stay! Thomas
Lovely proprietor. Traditional room. Breakfast in the morning with excellent lattes. There are 6 rooms (i believe) 2 shared baths which can be locked for a private or family use of the soaking bath. The proprietor was very helpful reserving a taxi (¥1460) that picked us up at the Ryokan and took us to the bus stop that got us to Mishima. He reserved the bus for us as well and even reserved our seats. It is a bit out of the way. We had lovely walls to the local public bath which has a spectacular view of Mt Fuji.
Location was great, great view of Fuji from our balcony. It is in quite a remote part of Yamanakako (last stop on the bus), but it was lovely and quiet and not touristy at all. The owner was super friendly, she held our bags for us the next day. They have two really cute and large cats, and lots of cat decor which was cute. The futons and the room was very comfortable. Really enjoyed our stay, highly recommend!
The hotel was situated right on Lake Yamanaka. We had a room with a view to the lake which was absolutely beautiful in the morning. There is free parking for hotel guests. Across from the hotel, you can rent bikes to cycle around the lake (14 km) and gives various views of Mt. Fuji. I also walked around the lake the following morning. Soaking in the communal bath at the end of an active day is good.
The place is simply amazing. It's a traditional Japanese house with cozy tatami rooms. My room had an amazing view of Fuji. I just look out and see it all! I don't think it can get better than that. And you get out of the hotel and you're on the beach! The owner is very sweet guy too. Highly recommended! Just beware of the buses, it's a village so they are not that frequent.
The location is great. It’s a short 5-7 minute walk to a beautiful view of Yamanakako, and there’s a bus station there as well.
The onsen is small, but the size is ok based on the number of guests at the hotel — I used the bath both nights and only saw one other person.
The price is excellent.
Charming hostel with cozy common places, great kitchen and the Fuji-san view from the balcony! Clean rooms, all necessary kitchen tools and city bikes to rent. It was great to ride across the lake (the rental is cheaper than near the lake beach). Friendly and helpful owners! Best hostel ever)
Everything! This was a delightful cottage in a great location.
It was a huge advantage that we had a hire car but I don’t know how often the local bus service would come to this area. To be able to drive 3 minutes around the lake to see sunset and sunrise on Mt Fuji was unbelievable.
beautiful view, hotel is a little bit high in altitude so we were able to see Mount Fuji when the city was still in the fog, view from the room was great and Fuji san was sooo incredible. breakfast was really nice, hotel staff very helpful and professional. spa are amazing !!!
Excellent host, felt very comfortable. Directions were very clear, helped us with bus bookings, dropped us at the bus station. Bikes were great for riding around the lake, a must do with constant views of Mt Fuji going to be a highlight of our trip to Japan..
The room is spacious with lake view. There is an izakaya next door which opens in the evening. There is a Family mart just next door to the hotel where you can buy convenient dinner and rest in for the day if you do not wish to go out after a nice onsen.
Stayed 2 nights to hike Mt Fuji in one day. The onsen was nice and we had a scheduled slot for just our group so I didn't have to worry about my tattoos. The woman running the place didn't speak much English but was very nice and helpful.
- The location is great, provided you drive.
- Stunning views from room and 5min drive from convenient stores.
- Walkable to a very scenic photo spot with the view of Mt Fuji.
- Breakfast and dinner provided was hearty and filling
Such a gorgeous location. The hotel itself is very clean and cozy. Super short walk to the lake which provides stunning views of mount Fuji. This was my favourite stop during my Japan trip.
Location is ideal for visit to Mt Fuji/Lake Yamanako area. Plenty of restaurants within a km or two as well. Room was comfortable, onsen very good too. Hosts very friendly and helpful.
This hotel caters to tour buses. Perhaps it is better in the summer. The only saving grace to this hotel was the down comforter on the too soft bed, and the onsen which is quite good.
Garden Shed is a beautiful location right next to Mt. Fuji and is rich in history. I have stayed at many hotels and Air BnBs in Japan and this is by far the best I have stayed at.
