Loved everything about Venice (except for the crowds).

Loved everything about Venice (except for the crowds). Always get up early morning for a stroll to appreciate it without the people. We chose just to enjoy strolling through the streets, a gondola ride which is a must and enjoying the ambiance of the restaurants and cafes and meandering in the shops. We didn't do the cathedral or Dogues Palace etc as we had seen similiar places in Rome and Florence. Venice is just so unique.

It is too crowded and too hot in summertime. People who visit there should either prefer spring or autumn. The Doge Palace and San Marc's Basilica must be visited, preferably with prebooked tickets/tours. The Borano/Murano tour is also strongly advised. Avoid touristic restaurants near San Marco Square and do your research.

I loved that there were so many different areas all with a different feel. Even though it was June and there were many tourists around St. Marks Square once you got away from that area you could find yourselves in little alleyways and streets with not other people. It is fantastic to have no cars. I think that was one of my favorite things! I liked that you could get a Vaperetto ticket and visit any area. you like including the outlying islands. I would go back again and spend more time just exploring every nook and crankie of this city.

    Extremely expensive hotels.

Extremely expensive hotels. I don't count any more the times I've been in Venice (cheap hotels in the neighborhood and daytrips). This time I booked no trip/excursion with a guide, just the Vaporetto (waterbus) which is indispensible in Venice. Just walked around all over Venice, probably even places no tourist ever went before and it was still great. Ate in restaurants away from the very busy tourist streets - look for these as they are often just a few streets away (cheaper and better). One big thing I didn't like: probably over half of the shops are run by Indians. It was 6 years ago since I last came, but I really got the impression Venice does not belong to the Italians any more and that's a shame! At night (passed 11PM) I saw 2 men dressed like Saoudi princes that seemed to collect the revenues from these shops. Many people working in restaurants and bars are also Indians. Cheap exploitable labor? I'm afraid to think what it will look like next time ...

Venice obviously can get very busy but it is ideal for a short stay of between 1 and 7 nights. A good base to explore other towns and cities nearby or a stopover on your way elsewhere. The airport is easy to navigate and well organised. Be prepared for lot of walking - probably somewhere to avoid for the mobility - impaired due to physical restrictions such as bridges/steps .

Beautiful location and apartment with all amenities. One of the best places we stayed at in Italy out of 4 different places. Laundry, kitchen, location, beds and pillows, and service were all great. We were greeted and the apartment was showed to us and we were allowed to have our luggage in the room prior to check in time since we arrived earlier than check in time. Place was close to the train station and easy to get into and out of Venice. We had a beautiful view of the canal and it was easy to get everywhere.

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL BOUTIQUE HOTEL, AND FOR FIRST TIME TRAVELORS TO VENICE IT WAS THE PERFECT LOCATION. IT IS IN THE HEART IF THE BEST PART OF VENICE, AND ALLOWS EASY ACCESS TO EVERYWHERE ELSE. THE ROOM IS BEAUTIFULLY SET UP, COSY, CLEANED DAILY, AND SPOTLESSLY CLEAN. WE HAD A SMALLER ROOM COMPARED TO OTHERS BUT IT WAS PERFECT FOR THE TWO OF US. THE STAFF ARE FANTASTIC AND HELPUL, AND WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO ENSURE WE WERE COMFORTABLE. I WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN AND AGAIN IF I RETURN TO VENICE.

This was by far the best hotel we stayed in during our Trip to Italy. You can't beat the location of Bauer Palazzo. The lobby is right in front of all the designer shopping in Venice but also in tucked away enough that the foot traffic isn't too heavy in front of the hotel. The hotel bar is right on the Grande Canal so we enjoyed having a cocktail out there before dinner. The room was very spacious (particularly for a hotel room in Italy). It is also a very short walk to St. Mark's Square.

I will definitely stay at this hotel again. In a very good spot on a piazza close to 3 vaporetto stations in a central part of Venice. The staff were very nice and the breakfast was very good. The shower was the best I have had in Italy so far. There is nothing I didn't like. The decor was a bit wild but even that was cool and totally suited to Venice. The square it was in had lots of eating and drinking options but never felt crowded which is rare for Venice.

The room was the best we had on our trip to Italy. Modern yet still had the touches that made it a Venice hotel exposed beams gorgeous flooring. Breakfast was continental and the gardens just off the dining room were beautiful. From the outside the hotel looked nothing special at all - but behind that door was another story. Would love to stay here again - if we are ever in Venice again.
