On a narrow peninsula protruding into Lake Garda, Sirmione is a wonderful town famed for its multi-turreted castle, Roman remains and hot springs.
The 13th-century lakeside castle makes quite an impressive sight as you cross its drawbridge to enter the old town beyond. From its walls there are lovely views across red-roofed buildings towards the trees hiding the ruins of a huge villa that belonged to 1st century BC Roman poet Catullus. Part of the complex included baths benefitting from the thermal waters, and the town still has a spa today on the opposite side of the promontory.
Nearby is the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore with its 15th-century frescoes, and the surrounding narrow, cobbled streets are home to stone buildings and several Sirmione hotels on Lake Garda. The majority of hotels are mid-range, but there are still a few 4 and 5-star hotels in Sirmione to choose from.
Booking.com also has lots of accommodation by the lake in the newer part of town, and its Lugana Vecchia area has a UNESCO World Heritage-listed prehistoric site.
To the west of Sirmione is the lakefront town of Desenzano del Garda, while to the east is Peschiera del Garda, close to the Gardaland and Canevaworld theme parks. The nearest airport is Verona Catullo Airport to the south-east.

It's a very pretty little town with a charming historical centre. There are some lovely restaurants and lots of opportunities for boat tours in the area.
It's better to arrive by boat or public transport as driving in the historical centre (to get to your hotel for example) is a nightmare. We have a Ford Focus and it was a tight fit through the narrow streets and all the crowds.
If you arrive by car be sure to get the permit at the entrance before the castle to drive in the centre - but better yet - park outside the historical centre.

Sirmione is quite a small place but with plenty of shops and bars and very pretty. There are a lot ferry's you can take to all over the Lake so never short of somewhere to visit. There is no supermarket in Sirmione but you can take a shuttlebus for 2 euros about 20 mins away where there is a small supermarket called coop.

Loved staying on the peninsula and the limited vehicles - not quite pedestrianised but close enough. Walked right to Jamaica Beach at the top, which was nice to visit. Lots of restaurants and cafes to choose from. Sometimes really busy when a tour party arrived - would recommend visiting out of season. We went early May and it was busy enough to have a vibe, but still able to walk around easily - bonus it was warm & sunny!

Great historic location, but extremely busy even in early May
thermal spas and mud treatments are excellent and must be tried
Lake Garda sunsets are beautiful
the castle is excellent
quieter north end of the island is worth exploring with some historic old churches
some great restaurants (Caruso's), but elsewhere waiters could be disinterested and unhelpful
great for ice cream!

It was great for the 4 nights we had there.
It was great for the 4 nights we had there. We arrived Wednesday and the town was not so busy, come Friday and Saturday it was busy and this was in May.
Walk up into the middle of the spur to find all the restaurants, which were ideally priced. I was surprised as I expected them to be expensive but most were very reasonably. The ones with decks by the water were a little more expensive but the view was great.
Great food and lovely Lugana white win.
We stayed at the hotel on May 08-10. We booked a room through booking: two nights - 330 euros. The room was two-room (number 9). But it turned out to be without a balcony and we were offered a smaller room (room 22), but with a balcony. On the booking website, this room costs 113 euros per night. The hotel could not count due to booking through booking (so they said). We ask you to return your assistance and return the difference in the cost of the rooms to the bank card.
About the hotel: good location, clean rooms, friendly staff.
It's close to everywhere in town. Nice room and clean. Good breakfast eventhough not many choises but it's all simply what we need for breakfast. The cofee is good and i like the scrambled egg.
All the staff were nice and very friendly, helpfull ...Aiku with his unique name specially Michaella who knows everything we needed to know and also gave good suggestions about places to visit as the lake Garda is so big that we didn't have time to see all. We had a great time and we'd to come back one day.
A Massive thanks to Paulo and the team. Il Mosaico was the highlight of this trip and many more accomodations we have stayed: great bed, very clean, super friendly staff, all perfect! Location is very central; not quite on the Sirmione Peninsula but 5 min by car. Another plus: the staff speaks English and is SUPER friendly, you don't find this everywhere in Italy :). Other reviews say that it is on a busy road, but we did not experience any noise at all. We will definitely come back.
Our stay at Hotel Dogana exceeded our expectations. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The garden, pool, rooms, and staff were great. We brought our big dog with us too, and we felt so welcome throughout the grounds. The location was perfect for what we wanted. A quiet getaway that still allowed us to reach busier cities. We walked to Sirmione, but I highly recommend renting bikes because the paths were so nice!
The pictures say it all. It's so close to the castle you feel like you can reach out and touch it. Great view from the balcony. After a week of staying in little hotel rooms in Italy it was refreshing to have the apartment. You have to park outside the village if you have a car, but it's a short walk to the apartment. Would totally stay here again.
For the money this hotel is highly recommended. Perfect location for anyone who wants to visit the most beautiful part of Sirmione. Very nice hotel complex in the middle of the "old town" and with a lot of tips for you to attend. They had the best breakfast that we ate in Italy during our trip as well, well exceeded our expectations!
The hotel is easy to travel to from Verona by bus or train . The local bus stop very close to the hotel . Nice base for explore lake Garda and beyond. Lovely stroll to the old town of Sirmione to visit castle. Big and comfy bed. Clean and friendly staff. There are many restaurants nearby . Great breakfast with lots of choices.
We loved our brief stay here when visiting lake garda. Its a 20minute walk to the main centres of sirmione which makes this property perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable with a beautiful location right next to the lake. I wish I could've stayed longer.
The hotel is a bit far from the old town, but we enjoyed our walk on the lake shore!
We had a room on the second floor, where the renovation is not done yet, but still, everything was very comfy and clean.
The breakfast was good, with a big variety of food (not only pastries and coffee as usual in Italy).
parking ample; safe, amenities fir comfort, bar on ground floor for an Italian breakfast, enough away from Sirmione with less hassle of crowds. the only thing that was a problem is that we couldn’t find it because the sign was small and set back from the road but not a distraction for an excellent hotel.
Everything perfect. Parking in front of the building, In a quite zone and close to the lake Garda and all sightseeings. Apartment is big, clean, everything in is almost new and well equiped (refrigerator, microwave, coffee and wasch machine, ...). It's also pet friendly. Our host Lara was very helpful.
Very clean.
Good breakfast, coffee not great
Staff was friendly, good English speaking
Free bikes at the hotel
Nice pool
Ping-pong in the back of the hotel
Location is not the best if you plan to go by feet to sirmione city center but with bikes or car is a good place to stay.
Rosa and Valentino were extremely kind and helpful. The apartment is gorgeous, it is modern with everything in it to make for a comfortable stay. It has a stunning view from the balcony of Lake Garda.
Tanina was amazingly helpful, charming, and a delight. She took excellent care of us. Should we return to Lake Garda, Hotel Casa Scaligeri will be our temporary home once again. Grazie Mille, Tanina!
The Best hotel I experienced during my tour in Italy , Modern , Clean , Exceptional breakfast buffet , on site parking and attentive staff , will definitely be my choice if I visited again
Nice and cosy place to stay in Sirmione. Localisation is very good, close to the Lago di Garda. In the neighbourhood there are many shops, restaurants and good cafeterias.
