I stayed in Varkala for 3 nights. This was mainly due to train timings. 2 nights would’ve been enough. I did a yoga class and auryvedic massage on the last day this would have been better in the second day.
What I did find slightly confusing was the references to North & South Cliff whereas I think South Cliff was an extension of the cliff walk - starting with North cliff.
Plenty of choice for food although a particular favourite was Sun Francisco - the Veg Tali was delicious and good value for money.

Varkala beach is busy very busy on weekends with lots of Indian tourists. The cliff side walk has lots of restaurants and shops. We found the beach a bit rough with the waves but beyond the waves it was calm . The stairs to the beach can be challenging if you have knee issues . It’s has a good atmosphere but we prefer less touristy places hence staying at Odayam each area .

Best restaurant is Clafouti for me.

This is a tourist destination. India' s soul not there. Crowdy, noisy, pushy salesmen, beggers, stray dogs.
Pretty dirty environment cause of littering.

Beautiful views from the cliffs, plenty of beaches, option to learn surfing (!), good food, and the most gorgeous mangrove/backwaters (30 mins away).... that's Varakala in nutshell. Lovely cliffside walks with breaks for some ice cream at Scoopy or a whole Israeli breakfast(yummmm) at Buddha Bar. We loved ABBA for all other hunger pangs. Having a rented scooter to go around the places away from the cliffs helps, but there were plenty of Autos as well.

Its took travel time is too far, Kerala roads are not good. Many people not follow traffic rules. Really upset to road travel to Kerala. Many sign boards are shown only in Malayalam Language, we struggled with read.
Except that places are really good and peoples also very friendly.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location is fantastic, just a few seconds walk to the main shops and restaurants along the cliff.
Everyone was so helpful at the hotel, from booking taxis and massages for us. They also had good recommendations and were eager to help.
Suresh and Rejin were both so helpful. We really enjoyed the cooking course we did here and would highly recommend it.
The room was spacious and comfortable. The air con in our room worked excellently. Would very happily come back to stay here again.
The chilled out vibe and the peaceful atmosphere is the best part. It's a place where you can unwind and enjoy with people/travellers at the same time. The place is very close to the cliff and black sand and odayam beach which are relatively less crowded and you can enjoy sunbathing.
The host was superb. All facilities like drinking water, kitchen access, wifi, toiletries were provided. The dorm bed was clean and the room was airy.
Overall it was a superb experience and I would highly recommend it to everyone.
The room was quite awesome with price. The breakfast was very decent and the staff was polite and helpful at needy time. I had a peaceful day. From the room there is 100m to the north cliff view from there is absolutely wonderful. Near to the place there is a shop where we could buy needy things. Lassi thier pet dog was so adorable. I had second experience with this place and he helped me in rescheduling the date of visit.

This has to be one of the best beach stays I've had. Clean room, spacious bathroom, the breakfast nook above the reception area has a lovely view. The staff was the sweetest and the most prompt. The beach is within walking distance and the area is serene and perfect for those who prefer less crowd. The resort is at quite a distance from the busy North Cliff area that is packed with cafes, shops and hotels but one can do a small hike to go to the other side or just take an auto,
Lovely location right on the beach, perfect for sunsets. Not so many people around as the Cliffs areas, which are a 20 minute walk along the beach (bring a torch as it is not well lit). Breakfast was decent. Friendly staff. Arranged us transfers that went perfectly at a good price. Bed was comfortable. It was clean. Excellent value overall. Room door was cool with an ornate lockable bolt, writing this from a 5 star hotel that has a fake version of the same.

Lovely place to stay when in Varkala. I rented a small cottage with AC, and it was perfect. Close to cliff and all of the shops and restaurants, and of course the beach. The garden area is nice and cool thanks to the trees everywhere. I even saw a mongoose stroll through the garden! Breakfast was included in my package and was great. Good choice of items on the menu.

Home away from home, From being served the yummiest of home cooked keralan food to Every little detail of ours taken care off. Homestay was well located from the cliff and super duper clean. Rekha jee even fulfilled our request when we said we want to learn how to make appam & stew. Definately a 10/10 if you wish to stay in varkala. Will be back for sure ❤️
really good location. few minutes walk to Varkala cliffs with shopping and bars. accessed via a small path at the back of the hotel. rooms spacious and great sized private balcony. the pool was clean and large and open till 6pm.
