Alleppey feels more of a jumping off point for back-water tours, rather than anything of note in and of itself. The main beach is only really good for going for a stroll to watch the (always cloudy) sunset - it's not setup for daytime relaxation. Stepping into the town, there are very few good places to eat, and as a Westerner the lack of being able to sit somewhere with an alcoholic drink was rather strange (there are liquor stores you can buy drink from for consumption in private). We stayed as a base for five nights - two, or maximum three would have sufficed.

The beach was nice, Boathouse that we took was that good, we took the day trip boat food was not within the expectation was very disappointed as the cook was from norther instead of local cook. Therefore we had only 2 kerala dishes vegetable and friend wish other menu was Dhal, rice , chapati and raita, mix veg. The starting point of boathouse was very disappointing where we saw kids diapers , and other plastic garbage floating around. Hope they can maintain the clearness and also ensure local food is serve on the boathouse. Otherwise the journey was beautiful we took a smaller boat to visit the local houses more closer.

A nice place to visit just for a day.
A nice place to visit just for a day. We opted for Shikara boats, which worked perfectly. Some people may prefer to spend their nights in a house boat, although, It may be quite boring for such long hours in still water.
The Alleppey beach is a must visit. A lot of people also visit Marari beach, however, I personally prefer the Alleppey beach since its much cleaner.
Must try - Seafood (although I am a Vegetarian, so cannot comment on that).
Most likely, one may visit this place only once and there are very less things to do here. So planning the trip for 1 or 1.5 days is more than enough.

We did the Charlotte Cruise Boat at Alleppy as a couple for one night. The check in was better than most hotels we visited in India! Our host introduced us to the boat’s captain and chef! We were greeted with fresh coconut water and the check in was smooth. The boat was wonderful! Just like a hotel setting but on water. The views were spectacular and food was delicious! We got to pick our own fish from a local fisherman and got to go on a smaller canal boat for an hour whilst the sunset and see the narrower parts of the backwaters. The only drawback is we were not informed of the additional cost of this which was RS1000 but it was worth it!

Alleppey is probably the nicest town along this bit of the coast, its noticeably cleaner and friendlier than other more touristy places. The beach front is slightly spoiled visually by the new raised coast highway being built but once you've got used to the structure you sort of forget it and get on with other things. The town is going through a period of change and will hopefully get better once many of the old historic buildings have been renovated and put to new uses. The town has clearly suffered from changes in industry but there is a move by the town council to breathe new life into the region and the investment will be worth it and make Alleppey great again!

Mr. Johnson will give u an idea about exploring Alleppey according to your schedule
I was there for only one day and travelling solo but due to his guidance I was able to have lot of fun and have the best out of my trip.
Also The rooms are huge and clean and well maintained
The beach and bus station are only 15 mins from his place.
Mr. Johnson is really a kind person and you will have fun talking to him. I postponed my trip twice yet he considered my situation and adjusted my booking, moreover also offered me some discount :)
Perfect place for our needs. On the beach, close to Alleppey, yet very quiet. Private beach just 50 meters away. We had our room on the 1st floor with a nice terrace to sit and listen to the waves.
Delicious food, lady of the house is a master chef! Great Kerala style dinners. Roasted prawns and fish curry are superb.
The owners are super friendly and helpful. They arranged us tuktuk, day cruise, taxi when Uber was not working etc.
We had great time and recommend Xavier’s Inn warmly.
The hotel is having specious clean rooms with balcony, bathrooms and ample parking area. The staffs are found polite and helpful every time. A great place to stay for those looking for privacy and peace with approachable major tourist attractions as well as local market.
Recently they have started in-house restaurant with limited breakfast and dinner options but the test is very good. Overall, it is a good budget friendly option for those who don’t want to opt houseboat in Alleppey.
The host were really lovely, they made sure we were comfortable. Rooms were spacious & super clean with all amenities one may need. We requested for rooms to be close together, which they fulfilled. They served us tasty & fulfilling south Indian breakfast with tea coffee juice and fruits. We really enjoyed it.
I'm gonna recommend this place to anyone who would be looking for great place in Alleppey.

We got a free room upgrade upon arrival since there was one available. The owner and his family are really kind and willing to help with everything. The food was very good and well priced! The room was made mosquito proof very well (which you kinda want in Alleppey).
Wifi was good and hot water worked fine.
We also did his houseboat tour which was great!
Antony is a great host, he will do everything to facilitate your stay, he also offers 2 brand new bikes for rent which will allow you to easily discover all the beautiful places in Alleppey because the location of the hotel is perfect for everything. Thank you Antony and thank you also to all these friends thanks to whom I had an excellent stay..
Nice cosy room. Newly refurbished room, bathroom was cleaned and bad was comfortable. Nice lobby with some sort grand old fashioned decor staffs were very friendly and service were excellent. Definitely will come back to stay here as my hotel of choice when I'm at Alleppey . Cool location.. nearly Alleppey railway station.
Nice house, very clean, quiet and confortable rooms with tea facilities. Staff were incredible , and both Vimal and Sunita were always kind and helpful and they arrange boating as well. Breakfast OK.
The place was in a quiet street very close to the boating canal and 10 min walk to main Alleppey's street and attractions.
This is a must-do if you are near Alleppey. Everything is taken care of for an idyllic private cruise. Just step on board, have a coconut on deck and enjoy the views. The chef even harvests the banana leaves to use for plates on the way for the authentic Kerala experience.
It’s a gem in Alleppey houseboat tour, the room & other things is vey excellent & authentic old style.
Food is amazing in Kerala style & taste is superb.
Especially the staffs helpful & generous. Night stay in the room is enjoyable with nice cool weather inside the room.
Such a welcoming and friendly family, they couldn't be more helpful. The location was perfect for us because I wanted to be out of town and away from Alleppey, but close enough to travel in when we wanted to.
Nothing as the hotel actually not exist, there is a shabby place instead, as we came we were told there is no room for reservation, we were escorted to another hotel and asked pay double price.
Lovely hotel on the banks of the lake, we spent a few nights in the hotel and rented one of the house boats at the hotel for 4 nights. A nice mix for a weeks holiday.
