Best staff in Ruteng. The food was also amazing, we ordered twice! Rooms are fine, for the price and just one night for our travels.

Petra Homestay Bangka Leda, hotel in Ruteng

Set in Ruteng in the East Nusa Tenggara region, Petra Homestay Bangka Leda offers accommodation with free private parking.

We had by far the best homestay experience ever! Fluffy, Theresia and Andrea were incredible hosts - it felt that we were treated as family more than guests. We shared great conversations and a very nice dinner with the family, and Fluffy was so kind to give up his time to show us around in Ruteng Pu’u. Petra Homestay is the place to be if you’re looking for a genuine experience getting to know a wonderfully kind and hospitable local family. Terima kasih banyak! 🙏

Jeff is one of the best I’ve ever met. He also invited me to a wedding he was hosting and made feel at home the whole time. The sunrise walk is a must, probably the most beautiful rice terraces I have ever seen. Thank you Jeff

Really nice homestay. It was very clean and had all the little extras, such as a bedside lamp, drinking water, socket by the bed and hooks, which make a difference. We arrived late and very wet from the drive in the rain and the added extra wood to fire so we could dry off and we had a delicious home cooked dinner.

    A very dirty, busy city.

A very dirty, busy city. Easy to be run over and huge holes in the sidewalks. Best not to stay here. There are no restaurants. To see the Spiderweb Rice fields it is best (if traveling by car) to just stop there on your way through (takes maybe 1/2 hour) and continue on

Higly recommended to everyone who wants to really enjoy the Ruteng and surrounding area, Waerebo village included (you can get there by motorbike). Ino and his family are awesome people, willing to help you with everything you need or want. You really become the member of the family. I would definitely come back if I visit Flores again. Breakfasts are so delicious and different every day (Im vegan and they prepared special meal for me, but I felt like a queen), beds are so comfy, they have hot shower, you can chill out at the garden or in the shed where you can also cook by yourself. They will give you valuable information and recommendations on places you should visit.. and there is much more. In the end, we are speechless, this stay exceeded our expectations.

Ruteng is so much more than a pit stop on the long journey between Bajawa and Labuan Bajo. It has spectacular scenery, many things to visit and a vibrant local culture. I particularly enjoyed being driven around the area, watching the sun rise over the rice fields, going to the cave where the bones of Homo Floriensis were found and having a picnic by a beautiful waterfall. The local traditions, including the division of land by the spiderweb method, are fascinating.

The population of Ruteng are all really really friendly.

The population of Ruteng are all really really friendly. Greetings are called out to travellers everywhere you go. There were probably a few too many who walked up, hand outstretched, to introduce themselves, ask our name and what our plans were. Only being friendly but it can get a bit much very quickly. School students walked with us to show us the way to places we wanted to go (there is a tourism school in Ruteng) and were keen to practice their English language skills. We even had offers to come back to homes for a traditional meal. Ruteng has the best local market we have seen anywhere. Best thing we did was have a driver take us on a drive through small villages.

Ruteng is a charming mountain city that was unexpectedly memorable. It was the administrative center for the old Manggarai Kingdom. Most visitors arrive to the city as a jumpoff point to Wae Rebo village. But for us, although we did partake in plenty of activities outside of Ruteng like the Todo Village, Liang Bua Cave and Spider Rice Fields, we had fun checking out the old cathedral, sunrise at the Golo Curu Hill that has a Virgin Mary altar at the top and experiencing the local culture in general. Any coffee enthusiast should experience Flores coffee at Kopi Mane. Don’t expect any local Manggarai food (we tried looking for them) but there’s plenty of Padang and Javanese options which we had at the street vendors and warungs. Swalayan 33 also has a variery of goodies and essentials that literally beats anything we found in Labuan Bajo so check it out. You can hike up Mt. Ranaka too which isn’t far from town. Though the town is more of a transit hub, give it a chance to explore its beauty. Marcel at Raja Guesthouse will make sure you enjoy your stay.
