The opportunity to stay with a Flores family in their home. They provided a delicious meal of local food which was included in the price. The room was basic but very clean with bright sheets and a warm blanket which was needed as Ruteng was quite cold.

The room was spacious and had a couch. Even though it was a sunday in a catholic town, Ricardo managed to find us a driver to go to the homo floriensis cave and spider web fields. This tour was amazing and the driver drove very well.
He also arranged a Gunung Mas for us to Labuan Bajo and advised us which time to choose to be in time to go past the roadworks.

Clean room in front of the jungle, nice view.
Comfortable bed
Breakfast was good
Friendly and helpful staff
Massage was great as well
A very dirty, busy city. Easy to be run over and huge holes in the sidewalks. Best not to stay here. There are no restaurants. To see the Spiderweb Rice fields it is best (if traveling by car) to just stop there on your way through (takes maybe 1/2 hour) and continue on

Higly recommended to everyone who wants to really enjoy the Ruteng and surrounding area, Waerebo village included (you can get there by motorbike). Ino and his family are awesome people, willing to help you with everything you need or want. You really become the member of the family. I would definitely come back if I visit Flores again. Breakfasts are so delicious and different every day (Im vegan and they prepared special meal for me, but I felt like a queen), beds are so comfy, they have hot shower, you can chill out at the garden or in the shed where you can also cook by yourself. They will give you valuable information and recommendations on places you should visit.. and there is much more. In the end, we are speechless, this stay exceeded our expectations.

Ruteng is so much more than a pit stop on the long journey between Bajawa and Labuan Bajo. It has spectacular scenery, many things to visit and a vibrant local culture. I particularly enjoyed being driven around the area, watching the sun rise over the rice fields, going to the cave where the bones of Homo Floriensis were found and having a picnic by a beautiful waterfall. The local traditions, including the division of land by the spiderweb method, are fascinating.
