People of Creta are famous by their hoispitality.
People of Creta are famous by their hoispitality. This is also my experience. I've found quite a lot nervous and impatient local people in Agios Nikolaos (who seemed to be annoyed by tourists), much more than in any other place on Crete by now (it is my 5th visit of Crete). Not all are like this, of course.
Agios Nikolaos in a very nice city otherwise. But, for me it was not a pure pleasure, and I've realized I'm very happy actually when back in our appartment a few kilometers out of Agios Nikolaos (didn't happen to me even in Heraklion or Chania!). It was just sooo relaxing... ;-)

Lovely litte city.
Lovely litte city. Visited in May; understandably the high season will be crowded and overly hot weather.
Usually excellent food, but also worth to try restaurants off the most busy city centre.
By car also worth to explore pebble beaches outside the town which are not crowded at all.

This is a lovely part of Crete, a bit off the beaten path, so it is not marred by the worst aspects of mass tourism, but still affords every convenience for the discerning traveller. The town of Agios Nikolaus is very nice to explore, stretching out over numerous areas including a colorful and lively pedestrian center, long seaside walks in various directions, and lots of shopping streets with bars and restaurants galore. Its unique geographical features mean that you can enjoy, in the center of town, stunning hilltop as well as lakeside and seaside views. As for excursions, Spinalonga Island is a must, along with an afternoon or evening in the nearby village of Kritsa (accessible by bus). There are lots of other places to visit, too, such as Sitia, if you have a car.

A must see. Local People were very friendly.
A must see. Local People were very friendly.
I will definitely rent a car. You can't compare the difference between the rent (Feul included)cost to Taxi fees.
Taxi fee from Heraklion to Agios Nicolaos 85 euro ( one way) With 170 Euro, you can Rent a car for many days ( 20Euro per day ) off cours + fuel.
Taxis are just out off line in Greece ( My opinion )
Absolutely best property we stayed in during our 2+ weeks in Crete. We rented the two bedroom villa and were very impressed with the quality of the property, great amenities. The host was very attentive and stays on site at all times. The pool is incredible and perfect for kids. I would highly recommend staying here and enjoying the local beaches. We were not crazy about Ag Nikolaos, but would return to this property in a heartbeat! Plenty to do around the property and avoid the hustle of the big city.
Fantastic boutique hotel at a fantastic location ! The staff is wonderful and do everything to make you feel comfortable. Great breakfast a la carte with a amazing view. They also got a nice dinner menu for 38€ with 3 courses. We had the standard room Seforis with a big private terrace and jacuzzi. Don't hesitate this the place to be in Agios Nikolaos. The centre is just 5 minutes away with the car.
For me, the criterion is not the number of stars, but only the question of whether you feel comfortable and at home. We felt at home!! The first thing I would like to mention is the friendliness of the owner. we really enjoyed the breakfast every day.
The location is perfect for walking to everything in Agiaos Nikolaos. And for excursions on Crete you always have to drive for a while anyway.
A great modern small hotel right in the centre of Agios.
Lovely big room with modern bathroom.
Comfortable bed and a lovely balcony overlooking the lake.
It was great to site on our balcony during the day at night, and with a few drinks
and view the lake area at night, a lovely peaceful setting.
Highly recommended and have now stayed here our last three trips into Crete.
We loved this hotel!. So much effort, imagination and detail reflects the age of this beautiful building whilst still providing all personal and modern needs. From the grand entrance, to the room decor and lighting, plus the changing views from the balcony both day and night, this was our favourite hotel having travelled throughout fascinating Crete.
Amazing hospitality!
We have just returned from Crete after this wonderful break.
The villa is located in an absolutely fantastic location with such a great view.
All rooms were spacious enough and the villa had all necessary equipment in a very good condition.
We will definitely come back in Summer ‘23 to enjoy the great hospitality.
A really very nice top floor apartment right in the centre of elegant Agios Nikolaos. Two huge verandahs with breathtaking views of the sea and the dramatic Cretean coast. The studio is ideal for one or two people, and is equipped with everything necessary. I totally enjoyed my stay at this clean and stylish place. Thank you ever so much!
The location, high above the coastline near Ammoudara (Agios Nikolaos), commands excellent views across the bay, and the site has been carefully developed, with substantial, well finished villas, each with 4 apartments. A full-width private balcony gives added privacy, and the well kept swimming pool is delightful.
The apartment has everything you need for any length of stay in the city. We stayed in 3 different locations during our trip to Crete, and this apartment had the most comfortable beds, and best kitchen. We didn't meet our host in person, but they were always easy to reach by WhatsApp and very nice and helpful.
it is a really nice resort with 3 pools, restaurants, pool bar and a private beach. it is located along
the hill side, which gives a nice ambiance. Parking is available. The apartments are large and have a good sized balcony. it is
about 10min drive to town
The apartment is very comfortable, well equipped and extremely clean. Stunning view from the beautiful balcony! Ideal location to visit eastern and central Crete. Antonis is a perfect host, very kind and available at any moment.
Cute family run boutique hotel in the heart of Agios Nikolaos close to the beach and with a stunning view from the balcony. Attentive staff who made us feel special. Newly renovated bathroom and exceptionally clean!
Very clean, very new, great kitchen and bathroom facilities. Great air con and quiet apartment too. Location is excellent, great food and drink right beneath us and Agios Nikolaos centre about 3 min walk.
The best view you could find around Agias Nikolaos. Very comfy house with a very big yard.
Perfect place for families that looking to explore east Crete and the host is the best and super helpfull!
Excellent location, beautifully designed hotel, the food delicious, especially the sweets! The staff was really nice and helpful. We will come back for sure for more days!
Amazing sea view, quiet location between Agios Nikolaos and Elouda both very nice to visit and go to restaurants. If you have a car to move around this place is great!
