Not to much to see or do in Kutaisi, but it is a nice city to have as a base, while you check out the caves, canyons, parks, sulfur pools etc. Tips: Dowload Bolt or Yandex to get around. And of course Wolt, to get food delivery. This will help you save a lot of troubles. Also, short way to Batumi and Anaklia from Kutaisi.

Except for the awesome Caves, Kutaisi has very limited appeal for tourists. The caves trip can be made from Batumi as well but that adds 4 hours travel time to the 8 hour long tour. So a better option is to stay overnight or two nights at kutaisi. Like us, If you are in kutaisi just for the caves tour, I recommend a laid back hotel to relax than a touristy one near the hustle bustle of the city centre. We stayed at the Veranda Boutique Hotel which matched what we sought.
The Tetra cave though much smaller than Prometheus cave is not so touristy & so one actually look around leisurely.
The Prometheus cave is awesome if you concentrate on taking in the views with your eyes rather than camera lens. We were looking forward to the boat ride in the caves but apparently that is cancelled most of the time irrespective of the weather.
I found the Okatse canyon very average - 6 kms of hiking & 1500 steps didn’t quite present the view one expected based on publicity pics.
Martvili canyon was better though not mind blowing - the short boat ride is a must do if you are visiting martvili.
If I had to plan it again I would take a private tour just to Tetra cave, Martvili canyon & Prometheus cave.
Amongst the churches, Motsminda perched on a motorable mountain has awesome views though it’s in the opposite direction to the caves. We also visited the Shaori reservoir - a very tedious arduous journey up & down several mountains - not worth the 2 hours effort . Believe me it’s no Zhinvalli ! Getting around kutaisi is easy & for the day excursions, Go trip is a comfortable option since the caves entrance ticket includes guide. We didn’t get an opportunity to visit local restaurants since our hotel hosts pampered us with sumptuous meals during our two day visit.

Kutaisi is one of the oldest cities in Georgia.
Kutaisi is one of the oldest cities in Georgia. There are a lot of streets with old architecture (pre-Soviet), so the walking tour around the city would be a perfect choice - you will make it in 3-4 hours and see everything. There is a nice market in the center, where you can buy spices like svanski salt. I recommend to go uphill to the Bagrata church - the walking there is quite a challenge, but the views of the old church and the city panoramas are worth it.

Kutaisi is an amazing city that fascinates with its history, atmosphere and friendly residents. This ancient city, one of the oldest in Georgia, is rich in cultural attractions and unique architectural monuments.
Walking through the streets of Kutaisi, you immerse yourself in its centuries—old history - the majestic Bagrati Cathedral and the ancient Gelati Monastery, which is under UNESCO protection, create a special sense of connection with the past. These places are filled with spirituality and peace.
But Kutaisi is not only about history and culture. The city is full of life and hospitality. Here you can enjoy delicious Georgian cuisine, stroll through cozy parks, visit local markets with their flavor and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
In addition, there is a natural wonder in Kutaisi — the Prometheus Cave with its fabulous stalactites and stalagmites. This place is a delight for everyone who gets there, creating the feeling that you have been transported to another world.
In general, Kutaisi is a place where everyone will find something for themselves: from history and nature to culture and communication with wonderful people. This city is sure to leave warm memories in your heart!

Sightseeing Kutaisi takes maximum 3 hours (with time for relax, taking photos), for me is not worth spending more time in the city. Its surroundings (Gelati Monastery, Prometheus Cave, Okatse Canyon) are more interesting, you need 1-2 days to visit everything.

The place is lovely and very relaxing from Kutaisi we traveled 1hr to visit the Prometheus cave, Sataplia Caves and Nature Reserve with Jurassic Park, and Martvili Canyon where we visited beautiful scenery and wonderful waterfalls. We have done water rafting too. With a tourist guide, you will reach places at more affordable prices.
Ramaz is an amazing and lovely host, he lifted us from the airport and then helped us find an apartment for a 3rd night, also helped us to book a car.
The welcome gift was a bottle of Georgian wine.
The world needs more people like Ramaz, we will sure be back one day, it was one of the best experiences we've ever had.
Absolutely the best choice of accommodation :-) Upon arrival, I was greeted very friendly and received homemade wine as a welcome. The equipment of the rooms is absolutely great and cozy. The staff also helped me with the night departure to the airport. If I'm in Kutaisi again, I'll be happy to come back :-) Thanks.
Location was great, we had great view to Kutaisi river. Short access to great restaurant and cable car going to kids part up hill. Interior design was mind blowing, it made me feel like we checked in some vintage hotel with old furnitures designs. This was by far best looking hotel during our stay in Georgia.
Hotel is in a good location, close to centre of Kutaisi. Owner made us super welcome
and tried everything to make our stay enjoyable. This place is perfect for a night stay before or after a flight. Owner arranged even a cheap transfer for us to an airport. Breakfast was tasty too.
