Eka was a lovely host! Very kind, attentive and with a positive attitude. She ensured we had all we needed and was always available in case we had any questions. Castle is amazing!Worth of visiting for sure!One of the Georgian highlights!You can set the base here,and go around a bit,to such a place as Vardzia and so,and to go straight to Batumi from there (just be aware of the snow-covered pass during the winter/early spring time, not available by regular car).

We made a last minute change to our travel plans to come to Akhaltsikhe for 1 night. 1 night us definitely not enough, 2 nights would have been better to fit in a a slow paced tour of vardzia (2-3 hours recommended, plus 2 hours total driving time). Give plenty of time to have a full tour of the fortress.
The town is very cute, and cool experience

One afternoon and one day were long enough to see the castle and go on a basic tour of the area. With two days more I would have gone to see the various churches and synagogues in town and taken the time for a hike in the surrounding mountains.

Very impressive fortress/castle of IX century, rebuilt in XII century. However, in my opinion, some parts of the reconstruction of 2012 doesn't fit well with old structures and makes to desire much more. Overall, it is worth to visit it.
But, if you are in Akhaltsikhe, you are simply OBLIGUED to visit Vardzia caves (1 hour away). It will leave you astonished!!!
And also Saro megaliths and ruins of 2nd millennium BC (45 min away)...
And much more...

A very interesting place. Rabati was fantastic, there are many other beautiful fortresses, churches, monasteries around. The nature was beautiful. Only about 62 km from Vardzia - a must see in Georgia.

Akaltsikhe is a beautifull area in Georgia and a good place to start tours to e.g. Vardiz or Borjomi. The castle in Akaltsikhe is a huge rebuild old castle renewed with new sites inside the castle walls. An exciting mixture of old and new. Be sure to have time for all the corners with nice mosaic basins and walk up the stairs to the towers for extraordinary good view.
The hotel is located right at the fortress. Beautiful surroundings and amazing view, but not from the hotel unfortunately, as most of the rooms have a view into the inner yard.
The breakfast was pleasant with a variety and restaurant stuff was accommodating. And they had baby chairs! this is a very unusual detail in many restaurants and hotels in Georgia.
Their Spa is not bad, but could be cleaner and maybe better if the pool could be filled up. Buy hey, it’s included in the price.
The room that I stayed in was very clean and comfortable (super comfy bed!). There is special attention to the décor so it feels quite homey and comfortable as opposed to the sparseness of many hotel rooms. The owners were very friendly and flexible for any and all requests. The location is nice if you want to be near the castle and bus station. Overall I had a fantastic stay and would definitely return here for a future visit.
Excellent staff and cleanness. The host even gifted us homemade wine. The hotel is located very close to the Rabati Castle. Also, close to the center. Room was very clean and comfortable.There were all necessary facilities in the toilet: soap, towels, shampoo.. I would definitely recommend it to everyone who is searchig a place to stay.
The owners are a very cool couple. Rooms are clean and well ventilated. Menu has many options of gerogian cuisine dishes; I tried ostri, tomato and cucumber salad and pasta with matsoni and garlic, all were delicious. Actual bar music and chat. I will definitely book again next time I come to Akhaltsikhe.
Hotel Sunny is a great place to stay. It is situated in a quiet area on the edge of the old town, yet close to the castle. The appartement is well equipped and quite new. The bed was very comfortable. The owners are lovely, helpful and very attentive.We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace.
