Hotel is decorated in a wonderfully eclectic style, so much brighter than the normal beige/grey/taupe you normally see! A real feast for the eyes. Reception is well organised and efficient. We had garden room which was well set out and appropriate size. Beds were comfortable as was room temperature. Shower room was excellent, very clean and water pressure very good. Breakfast in main dining room, self service with good selection. York centre is a 25 minute walk along the main road - flat and with good signage. Would recommend if you want to stay 'in' York but prefer not to stay in the city centre.

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once allowed access to the city.
Walk the walls for wonderful views towards the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.
A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even have a go at archaeology yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.
Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around 30 minutes’ drive away is Castle Howard, a stately home with over 1000 acres of grounds.
Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there is a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in York and the outskirts available on Booking.com.

York is the perfect place for history lovers and people who love the old world charm. The place is full of narrow streets with tales that you must hear in any of the guided tours. The walk of city walls is a must to walk through the history of the place.
We did the Jorvik Vikings experience which was a great experience.I took a self guided audio tour from voicemap (city walls of York) which was wonderful. We also took the Mad Alice's the bloody tour of York and it was amazing. Must experience.

A special city with incredibly friendly people.
A special city with incredibly friendly people. We followed the cat statue trail and saw most of the centre whilst being able to enjoy the Shambles, York Minster and the river. It was very busy in certain areas but to be expected on a lovely warm Saturday in such a beautiful place.
We needed more time than we’d allowed ourselves and will be back to see the Jorvik Viking Centre, Chocolate Experience and the York Dungeon.

Expensive parking, however great location.
Expensive parking, however great location. Bar Convent under construction - not pleasing to the eye upon arrival. Nobody there when we checked in - had to wait at desk for 10 minutes before a face appeared. Exhibit closed during the check-in day plus Sunday and Monday - disappointed. Bar Convent expensive - rooms small. Breakfast was the best part with whoever served us on Sunday morning - amazing.

We enjoyed everything about our trip.
We enjoyed everything about our trip.
York Minster was awesome including the tower challenge and with the wife and I in our 70s, it was a challenge.
The railway museum is certainly a place to visit even if you're not a railway buff.
The York Castle museum and the Yorkshire museum are also places worth visiting, and don't miss out on the hop on hop off bus tour.
Places to eat are numerous and will suit any taste and pocket.

York is a busy but great place to visit.
York is a busy but great place to visit. An array of shops based in cobbled side streets and on main streets. Pubs galore and plenty of places to eat.
You can not go wrong here as there is something for everyone including river cruises, tours and walks and cycling.

Historic busy, many many places to visit.
Historic busy, many many places to visit. Tourist trap, and entrance fees to many attractions expensive especially with visitors with children
If you search around you can find "Pub price foods" otherwise eating is costly. York is a fine city to visit especially "The Minster" but again entrance fees are costly. Town heavily trading on its historic past.
The hotel was lovely we went for my daughters hen party there was 14 of us. The hotel was situated in a lovely area of York a short taxi ride into the city centre. The pub next door the grey mare was very helpful with taxi numbers and where to go while we were staying there. Only 1 complaint there wasn’t enough bedding the sofa bed didn’t have a duvet and when one of the girls rang they said they couldn’t bring one until the office opened on Monday and we we’re checking out on the Sunday.
My husband and I have just enjoyed a wonderful few days in York on our honeymoon and had the pleasure of staying the Du Vin Hotel. From start to finish our stay has been fabulous and genuinely the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The staff are all so professional and pleasant and can’t do enough for you. Everything you wish for in a hotel, you get here on a 5 star level. They did a lovely job of making our stay extra special for our honeymoon too 💕
A very good and excellent choice of complimentary breakfast options. The staff were all pleasant and polite and we were impressed with the gym facility, which had a selection of clean towels and a water dispenser if required. The hotel is excellently situated for the city centre attractions and facilities, and the associated Q-Park car parks were similarly convenient. We would definitely recommend this hotel if staying in York.
Not a hotel as much as an airbnb type place but that was totally fine. Accessed my room key by a lockbox on the entry door, super easy. Awesome location just a stones throw from one of the city’s famous gates, leading to a pedestrian street bringing you straight to the Minster. My room was small but cozy and exactly what I wanted for a couple days in York. Lots of restaurants everywhere.
Perfect location - easy walk to/from the train station & into York. We stayed in the Roman House part of the hotel in a spacious, modern room. We had breakfast - which was delicious - one morning and drinks in the bar one night, but didn’t have dinner at the hotel. Staff was very nice. All in all it was a great stay - will definitely recommend The Grand to friends traveling to York.
The manager was very welcoming, explaining how to use all the facilities thoroughly.
The location was perfect for accessing the city centre.
Having access to an underground secure car park was so a huge drawing card for us.
The view of the York Minster from the living room and one bedroom was fantastic.
Loved staying in a roomy apartment as oppsed to a room in a hotel.
Hotel is located very close to the city centre. Short walking distance to everything you would find interesting during your stay in York. People working in the hotel are very friendly and helpful. Room was excellent- big bathroom, comfortable bed. Hotel is very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was delicious too! Highly recommended!
Lovely hotel. We stayed on the 6th floor in a club room with views of York minster. The room was clean and tidy, with a large
bed with a monsoon shower. Breakfast was exceptional.... especially the scrambled egg. Central York was easily accessible with a short walk. The staff were helpful and cheery. I would stay here again.
Great location and beautifully decorated. it had the best bathroom out of all the places we stayed in England. It was right on the bus line and so convenient to get into city center every day. The breakfast was wonderful ever morning. The pub is really nice and the staff is super friendly. We really loved the place.
We loved this place. Gorgeous hotel with amazing staff! Loved the decor & the restaurant was fabulous. Great value for money it felt like a 5 star treatment the whole time we were there. Location is walking distance to the centre of York. We also had treatments in the spa which I highly recommend.
Was given free upgrade to ensuite room, the room was very comfortable, hot water for shower on tap in bathroom, room well furnished and modern in look and would not look out of place in more expensive hotel. And within walking distance of York City Centre win win!
The hotel is conveniently located on a reasonably quiet street in City Centre. It's easy to find, and it serves as a great launch place for a walking adventure in York. The rooms are small but comfortable, as are the bathrooms, which have great walk-in showers.
Exceptional service by the wonderfully friendly staff. The hotel had character, the room was lovely and there were great little touches such as fresh milk, candles in the small courtyard and the availability of York Gin (only a few doubles were consumed)!
This was a perfectly fine stay but nothing out of this world. Location was the best part—easy 10 minute walk into York. Beds were comfortable and the room is large. But the hotel is old so don’t expect any frills. Breakfast is nice and cooked to order.
Great location, secure parking a major plus.
normally stay in a hotel when visiting York. but decided to try an apartment. was not disappointed and the extra room was excellent and more relaxing. would highly recommend this property.
Great location for visiting the centre of York.Bus stop close to hotel to take you in to city centre. Good parking on site. Great choice at breakfast. Staff helpful and friendly. Rooms clean.
The hotel is stunning the location is perfect for getting into York city centre and the shambles. The hotel had a gorgeous teepee tent in the gardens with drinks and music.
